Job Description

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES(100%)

Software and System Engineering(50%)

- Rapid Application Development: Design and develop software applications and/or databases to meet scientists data needs, including integrating data into existing or new pipelines for advanced analytics and visualization.
- Collaboration & Data Solutions: Work with colleagues and scientists to identify data gaps, and implement solutions for data capture, storage, processing, searching, integration, and visualization using FAIR data practices.
- Platform & Tech Stack Alignment: Partner with ZTD and VMRD technology groups to ensure alignment on available tools, platforms, and recommended tech stack.
- Quality & Performance: Develop reliable, high-quality, scalable applications and perform testing and debugging to ensure optimal functionality.
- Code Reviews: Participate in code reviews with colleagues and ZTD to maintain high code quality and apply best practices.
- Frontend Development: Develop frontend modules for internal web applications using TypeScript, React (Next.js), and Python (FastAPI).
- Agile Practices: Operate within agile development cycles (SCRUM), including weekly standups and sprints, with tasks defined by technical leads and product managers.
- Vendor & System Implementation: Collaborate with field service teams and vendors to implement and troubleshoot instrument-related data systems.
- System Design & Documentation: Create systems design, software configurations for commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and SaaS systems, and document installation/verification steps.

Technology Consultation(50%)

- Solution Design: Translate business requirements into innovative solutions, system configurations, and data models.
- Long-Term Strategy: Contribute to the definition of long-term system strategies and roadmaps.
- Project Estimations: Provide technical effort estimates for proposed projects and assist project managers in identifying technical tasks, system dependencies, and resource estimations.
- Financial Evaluations: Provide technical evaluations for proposed solutions to help determine the financial feasibility of projects.

Software and Technology Support(20%)

- Level 3/4 Support: Provide technical support for VMRD software and technology, assisting Level 1 and 2 support teams as needed.
- Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot issues, guiding the team through advanced technical challenges.

Continuous Learning and Technology Expertise(20%)

- Subject Matter Expertise: Offer application engineering expertise to Zoetis IT solution partners, vendors, and service providers.
- Engineering Contribution: Contribute technical and engineering guidance throughout the development life cycle, particularly in design and engineering phases.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- Degree: Undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 5+ years in IT or a closely related field.
- Proven experience as a Rapid Application Developer or similar role in the Life Sciences industry.
- Experience with Agile or Scrum methodologies.
- Familiarity with developing solutions in CMC, including cell-line development, upstream, and downstream, is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking ability in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with system design and building solutions (including modeling and database design).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

- Programming: Proficiency in Java, C#, Python, and using Git/GitHub for code sharing.
- Frontend Development: Experience with React, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Database Management: Familiarity with SQL, NoSQL, Oracle.
- Visualization Tools: Experience with tools like Tableau, Spotfire, or Power BI.
- Platform Configuration: Fluent in SQL Server, Oracle, AWS, Azure.
- System Design & Architecture: Experience with .NET, Python, Cloud platforms, web services, and network/firewall protocols.
- Emerging Technologies: Knowledge of AI, ML, and other emerging tech in data and systems infrastructure.
- Off-the-shelf Systems: Experience with COTS and SaaS solutions.
- Data Security: Knowledge of data security/compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
- LIMS/ELN: Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems and Electronic Lab Notebooks.

Desired Competencies

- Expertise in the technical areas above with a desire to mentor others.
- Familiarity with project management principles and SDLC.
- Prior experience in genetics or bioinformatics is a plus.
