About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join our distributed engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining scalable, high-performance web applications while improving legacy codebases for better reliability and maintainability. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams in an asynchronous environment and contribute to robust technical solutions, comprehensive documentation, and best-in-class development practices.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable applications using Ruby on Rails
- Debug and enhance legacy systems with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability
- Write clean, modular, and well-documented code following best practices
- Develop and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure code quality
- Collaborate asynchronously with cross-functional teams; contribute to and maintain technical documentation
- Design and optimize PostgreSQL databases with a focus on performance and data integrity
- Utilize AWS services and Kubernetes (K8s) for deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure management
- Optionally contribute to projects using Python, React, and TypeScript
- Participate in agile workflows and sprint planning using JIRA, Confluence, and Slack

Required Qualifications

- 9+ years of professional software development experience, primarily with Ruby on Rails
- Strong debugging skills and experience working with and modernizing legacy systems
- Proficiency in PostgreSQL and relational database design
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes
- Proven ability to write high-quality unit and integration tests
- Comfortable working independently and asynchronously in a remote team setting
- Strong emphasis on clean code, maintainability, and software design best practices
- Excellent written communication skills and a habit of thorough technical documentation
