Job DescriptionJob Summary:
These entry-level roles are designed for aspiring maritime professionals to gain comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on experience necessary to become qualified officers in the Merchant Navy. Under the direct supervision of senior officers, Trainee Marine Engineers will focus on the operation and maintenance of ship machinery, while Deck Cadets will concentrate on navigation, deck operations, and cargo handling. Both roles are crucial for supporting the safe and efficient functioning of the vessel and preparing for future leadership responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities (Trainee Marine Engineer - TME):
- Assist the engineering officers in the daily operation, maintenance, and minor repairs of main and auxiliary machinery, including engines, pumps, purifiers, and generators.
- Learn to monitor machinery parameters, take soundings of tanks (bilge, sludge, fuel, lube oil), and maintain accurate engine room logs and records.
- Participate actively in engine room watches and learn watchkeeping duties under supervision.
- Assist in bunkering operations and fuel transfer procedures.
- Contribute to maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the engine room and associated machinery spaces.
- Understand and adhere to all safety regulations, environmental protection policies, and company procedures within the engine department.
- Participate in all emergency drills and training sessions.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by the engineering officers to facilitate learning and operational support.
Duties and Responsibilities (Deck Cadet):
- Assist the deck officers in all aspects of navigation, including chart corrections, passage planning, and bridge watchkeeping duties under supervision.
- Learn to operate and maintain navigational equipment such as radar, ECDIS, and GPS.
- Participate in deck maintenance tasks, including chipping, painting, greasing, and general upkeep of the vessel's exterior.
- Assist in cargo operations, including loading, discharge, securing, and tallying of cargo.
- Learn and actively participate in mooring and unmooring operations, including handling ropes and wires.
- Contribute to maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the vessel's deck areas.
- Understand and adhere to all safety regulations, international maritime conventions (e.g., SOLAS), and company procedures.
- Participate actively in all safety drills (e.g., fire, abandon ship, man overboard) and emergency preparedness activities.
- Maintain a personal training record book and relevant logs as required for certification.
Qualifications:
- Completion of all mandatory Marine Courses (STCW compliant).
