Head of Engineering

Job Purpose: The Head of Engineering will be a pivotal leader responsible for overseeing all engineering activities from conceptualization to commissioning for a large-scale, greenfield or brownfield steel plant project. This role requires extensive experience in heavy industrial projects, particularly in the steel sector, with a strong focus on project execution, technical excellence, safety, and cost control. The successful candidate will lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team, ensuring the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases adhere to project specifications, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project timelines.

Responsibilities :

- Develop and implement the overall engineering strategy for the steel plant project, aligning with project goals, budget, and schedule.
- Lead the conceptual design, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering phases.
- Participate in the selection and management of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors, consultants, and vendors.
- Ensure the integration of all engineering disciplines to achieve a cohesive and optimized plant design.
- Ensure all engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and calculations comply with relevant national and international codes, standards, and best practices.
- Oversee the review and approval process for all engineering deliverables from contractors and vendors.
- Implement robust quality control procedures for all engineering outputs.
- Drive value engineering initiatives to optimize design, reduce costs, and improve plant performance without compromising safety or quality.
- Manage the engineering schedule and budget, identifying potential deviations and implementing corrective actions.
- Coordinate with procurement, construction, and operations teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Oversee the resolution of technical issues and challenges during all project phases.
- Lead technical discussions and negotiations with suppliers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure effective document control and management of all engineering data.

Educational Qualifications & Certifications - Bachelor's degree in engineering (Metallurgical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering preferred). A master's degree in engineering or business administration (MBA) is a plus.

Total Years of Experience -

- Minimum of 20-25 years of progressive experience in engineering roles within heavy industrial projects, with at least 5-10 years in a leadership/head of engineering capacity for steel plant projects,
- 10–15 years in steel plant project (greenfield or brownfield).
- Demonstrated experience in the full lifecycle of greenfield or significant brownfield steel plant projects (from conceptual design to commissioning).
- In depth knowledge of various steelmaking and associated auxiliary systems.
- Proven experience in managing large, multi-disciplinary engineering teams and external consultants.
- Strong understanding of project management principles, including budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and quality control.
- Experience with relevant engineering software and tools
