Why this job matters The Software Engineering Professional subsistence the execution of the software engineering strategy and roadmap that subsistence BT s commercial strategy through cross functional project and technical delivery and the participation of a team that pursues innovation as well as engineering excellence This role has the responsibility for developing cloud native applications aligned to judicious vision The role will work closely with other team members in a fixed capacity squad to build Apps and support cloud native Apps What you ll be doing As a Software Engineering Professional you are responsible for the Design and Development of Digital s Judicious Platforms and S W Systems Be a collaborative software engineer delivering features to our internal customers via our cloud product suites Engage in initial feasibility discussions with our customers on all things cloud when needed Support our customers to help unblock issues in the cloud when required Actively engage with the security and compliance teams to ensure what we deliver is fit for purpose Evangelize cloud-first and software engineering principles to our stakeholders Inputting understanding and disputing engineering conclusions and empowering your squad to be autonomous Collaborating with other engineering leaders to contribute to company-wide engineering best practices and standards Providing technical knowledge to consult on significant component s of a solution as well as taking responsibility for the software deliverables Supporting and coaching a team of high performing software engineers and driving continuous improvement across your squad Design develop and maintain microservices-based applications using AWS services and Architectures Interact with cross-functional teams to understand the business requirements and convert them into effective solutions Participate in code reviews and contribute to the development of coding standards Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of a strong engineering culture within the team Design and develop APIs to support digital experiences using open source and cloud technology Work as part of an agile team to turn complex business needs into elegant solutions Conduct design reviews to ensure solutions fit our architecture security scalability and maintainability guidelines Provide squad level engineering leadership and contribute to our engineering community and standards Ensure the continued implementation of a test first approach and implement the clean architecture principles Skills Strong notions of software engineering with a focus on large-scale complex systems Strong experience with Java Python shell scripting and spring boot Experience of Frontend development in either React Javascript Flutter Strong experience with unit test and integration test build with different testing suites Experience with AWS web applications cloud-native applications and cloud-based applications AWS Certification AWS Certified Developer is preferred Experience of PostgreSQL database development and administration is desirable Experience in developing microservices-based applications with API standardization Good understanding on CI CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins and understanding on Agile software development methodologies Experience designing microservices architecture and building RESTful web services and GraphQL Knowledge of web security application security web services security common vulnerability remediation certificate management Experience required Experience implementing and optimising Agile Processes Expertise in cost optimization and implementing cost-effective solutions with AWS services Expertise in collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams of business analysts subject matter experts and Architects About us BT Group was the world s first telco and our heritage in the sector is unrivalled As home to several of the UK s most recognised and cherished brands -
