About the role : The Staff SDET - Data will lead the quality engineering efforts for Alkami's data engineering team, focusing on building robust test strategies and automated frameworks to validate the scalability, reliability, and performance of data systems. You will work on complex testing challenges, driving initiatives that ensure seamless data quality across our data pipelines, warehouses, and platforms. This role involves leadership responsibilities, technical mentoring, and strategic collaboration with cross-functional teams to establish and uphold high-quality standards across the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Test Strategy & Framework Development

- Architect and implement end-to-end automated testing frameworks tailored for data lakes, warehouses, and ETL pipelines.
- Develop comprehensive test plans, including functional, integration, regression, performance, and security testing, for big data systems.
- Define and implement data quality checks, data validation processes, and monitoring pipelines to ensure system reliability.

Leadership & Mentorship

- Act as a technical leader by mentoring Senior SDETs and Junior SDETs on best practices, advanced testing methodologies, and innovative approaches to quality assurance.
- Provide guidance on complex data testing scenarios, debugging strategies, and the adoption of emerging testing tools and techniques. Performance Optimization
- Establish testing KPIs to measure the performance, reliability, and scalability of data pipelines and applications.
- Identify and address bottlenecks in data processing and transformation workflows through rigorous performance testing.

Collaboration & Communication

- Collaborate with data engineers, product managers, and DevOps teams to ensure testing efforts align with business and technical goals.
- Participate in cross-functional design discussions to proactively identify quality risks and advocate for testable and maintainable system designs.
- Communicate test strategies, progress, and results effectively to stakeholders, including non-technical audiences.

Innovation & Continuous

- Improvement Research, evaluate, and implement cutting-edge tools and technologies to improve testing efficiency, coverage, and reliability.
- Champion a culture of quality by introducing innovative testing methodologies and fostering collaboration across teams. Operational Responsibilities
- Support production environments by monitoring data quality and addressing on-call issues during critical escalations.
- Partner with DevOps teams to enhance CI/CD pipelines, ensuring smooth integration of automated tests and deployments.

Required

- 10+Yeears of development /Testing experience.
- Extensive Programming Expertise: Mastery of Python, SQL, and other scripting languages for building advanced testing tools and frameworks.
- ETL Testing Tools: In-depth knowledge of ETL testing tools such as Pytest, PyDeequ, Soda, Great Expectations, and AWS Glue Data Quality.
- Big Data Expertise: In-depth knowledge of big data tools like Apache Spark, Kafka, and Airflow, with experience testing and validating large-scale data pipelines.
- Cloud Platforms: Advanced expertise with AWS big data services Glue and Airflow including hands-on experience designing and testing cloud-based data solutions.
- Report Tools: Hands-on experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Amazon QuickSight, Tableau, or Power BI, with the ability to validate report accuracy and integrity.
- Data Governance: Strong understanding of data governance principles, including privacy, security, and compliance best practices.
- Data Streams: Deep expertise in streaming technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, or equivalent, with experience testing real-time data pipelines.
- DevOps Integration: Expertise in CI/CD processes, infrastructure as code, and containerized deployment using tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and Jenkins.
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills for resolving complex technical issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead cross-functional initiatives.
