Key duties include preparing tools, operating lapping and buffing machines, performing minor repairs like replacing clasps, and inspecting finished pieces for quality. Essential skills are a high level of attention to detail, steady hands, patience, and a commitment to safety protocols due to the use of chemicals and machinery.
Key ResponsibilitiesPolishing and Finishing: Use hand and power tools, including buffing wheels and polishing compounds, to remove scratches, dullness, and imperfections from gold, silver, platinum, and other metals. Cleaning and Inspection: Clean jewellery thoroughly with ultrasonic machines and inspect pieces for quality, ensuring they meet high standards before sale or return to customers. Minor Repairs: Perform small repairs, such as fixing loose clasps or settings, to restore pieces to their best condition. Tool and Supply Management: Maintain and inspect tools, ensure proper inventory levels of supplies, and keep the workspace clean and organized. Safety Adherence: Follow strict safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves and eye protection, when working with tools and chemicals. Required Skills and AttributesAttention to Detail: A critical skill to achieve precise and high-quality finishing on intricate and valuable pieces.
