We are currently evolving from a video analysis tool into a full social platform for figure skaters and coaches. Join us to build real-world features like social feeds, chat systems, and scalable APIs. Role Summary We are looking for ambitious Backend Engineering Interns to join our team. You won't be fetching coffee; you will be writing production code. You will work directly with our founding team and developers. Your focus will be on designing robust APIs, optimizing database queries for social feeds, and building real-time communication features. What You Will Build (The Challenge) - Social Graph: Design database schemas for social graphs and write efficient SQL queries to power user feeds. - Real-Time Chat: Implement direct messaging using WebSockets/Supabase Realtime. - API Architecture: Migrate existing monolithic endpoints to a modular Service Layer architecture using FastAPI. - DevOps: Help set up CI/CD pipelines, secure our cloud infrastructure, and optimize database performance. Technical Qualifications (Must Haves) - Python: Strong grasp of Python 3.9+, including asyncio and type hinting. Experience with FastAPI or Flask is highly preferred. - Databases: You understand how Relational Databases work (Foreign Keys, Joins, Indexes). You can write a SQL query for PostgreSQL without an ORM if you had to. - API Design: Understanding of RESTful principles (HTTP methods, status codes, JSON). - Docker: You can build images and run containers locally. You understand why "it works on my machine" isn't good enough. - Git: You know how to branch, commit, push, and resolve merge conflicts. Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves) - Experience with Supabase (Auth, Row Level Security). - Familiarity with Docker and containerization. - Experience with Redis or caching strategies. - Previous projects involving social features (feeds, likes, comments). - Previous projects with cloud services (AWS EC2, S3, SQS). - AWS Certifications/Open Source projects/ GSOC, etc. Essential Attributes - Curious: You don't just copy-paste code; you want to understand how it works. - Resilient: You don't give up when you hit a bug. You dig into the logs and fix it. - Communicator: You can explain your technical decisions clearly in English (written and verbal). - User-Focused: You care about the end-user experience, not just the code.
