Position Title: Search Services – Software Engineer Description We are one of the largest retail organizations in the world, serving hundreds of thousands of customers across stores, e-commerce, and distribution channels every day. Our technology teams are driving a transformation to make our systems faster, smarter, and more resilient empowering our supply chain and enterprise integrations to deliver with precision. We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Search Services team, a backend-focused team responsible for building and scaling the core services that power intelligent search and personalized discovery experiences. Our systems handle millions of requests daily, delivering fast, relevant, and reliable results to users across the platform. This is a high-impact role where you'll work on distributed systems, search infrastructure, and machine learning-driven features that directly shape how customers find and engage with content. What will you be doing? As a Software Engineering, you will: - Design, develop, and maintain scalable search and discovery systems that power personalized and relevant product experiences. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Data Science, and Front End to define and implement innovative solutions that improve search relevance and user engagement. - Build and optimize indexing, ranking, and query understanding components using modern search technologies (e.G., Elasticsearch, vector search engines). - Leverage machine learning and natural language processing techniques to enhance product discovery and recommendation capabilities. - Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements to ensure high availability and low latency. - Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, and participate in code reviews to uphold engineering best practices. - Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in search, AI, and large-scale distributed systems. - Responsible for providing technical leadership, direction, and implementation of technical projects that affect all Abercrombie & Fitch consumer brand global eCommerce sites. - Implementing rapid changes to meet changing business and marketing requirements. - Ensuring that implementations meet the required scalability and reliability required for A&F eCommerce operations. - Analyzing and diagnose any issues which may impact performance or availability in the eCommerce environment. - Developing functional and technical documentation on assigned projects. - Working in a team environment in supporting the team goals and improving web development engineering practices. - Work closely with organizational stakeholders, technology partners and other members of the eCommerce team to ensure timely completion of deliverables - Troubleshoot issues with business partners and support teams - Follow Agile-Scrum software development methodology by participating in the daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and sprint retrospective meetings. - Continuously improve related platforms based on retail technology trends to support business strategies What will you need to bring? Required Skills & Experience: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering or a related field - 5+ years of experience in related field with at least 3 years of ecommerce experience with a proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining complex systems. - Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, or Kotlin - Hands-on experience with Microservices oriented architecture and Kubernetes. - Experience with search platforms is a plus (e.G., Elasticsearch, OpenSearch) and understanding of search algorithms and ranking techniques. - Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design. - Act as Mentor and Catalyst to lead the engineering team on Dev owned quality principles. - Critical thinker with the ability to develop completely new problem-solving approaches and formulate innovative solutions - Excellent technical, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal. - Ability to think and react in a high-energy, fast paced environment - Ability to rapidly learn new software and maintain competency with technologies - Ability to work flexible hours - Highly motivated Self-starter with Strong work ethic and ability to work in a team-oriented organization.
