Job Description 1. Responsible for managing the organizations data infrastructure, ensuring databases are secure, efficient and accessible 2. Proficient in Database Management Systems 3. Relational Databases: MySQL, MariaDB, MsSQL 4. NoSQL Databases: MongoDB 5. Cloud Databases: Amazon RDS: MySQL, MariaDB 6. Advanced SQL skills 7. Query writing - ability to understand and write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers and functions 8. Query optimization - analyze and optimize queries for performance improvement 9. Indexing strategies - understand importance of indexing, the various indexing techniques available for each DBMS and how to implement them 10. Database design and modelling 11. Data modelling - proficient in designing or advising on efficient database schemas using Entity-Relationship diagrams 12. Normalization/Denormalization - knowledge of normalization for less data redundancy and denormalization for performance tuning 13. Capacity planning - estimate future database growth and resource planning 14. Performance monitoring and tuning 15. Performance metrics - understand key metrics like CPU usage, memory allocation, disk I/O, query response times etc 16. Troubleshooting - identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in databases 17. Backup and recovery 18. Backup strategies - implement full, incremental and differential backups to safeguard data 19. Recovery techniques - proficient in restoring databases from backups and performing point-in-time recoveries 20. Disaster recovery planning - develop and maintain plans to ensure business continuity in case of data loss or system failures 21. Security management 22. Access control - implement role-based access control (RBAC) and manage user permissions 23. Data encryption - ensure data is encrypted both at rest and in transit 24. Compliance - Adhere to regulations like GDPR or PCI-DSS to maintain data privacy and security 25. Scripting and automation 26. Scripting languages - proficient in languages such as python, powershell, bash or perl for automation of routine tasks 27. Automation tools - experience with tools like ansible or chef to streamline database management processes 28. High availability and scalability 29. Clustering and replication - set up and manage database clusters and partitions and replication to ensure high availability 30. Load balancing - distribute database load across multiple servers to enhance performance and reliability 31. Sharding - implement sharding techniques to distribute data across multiple databases for scalability 32. Data warehousing and ETL processes 33. Data warehousing - understand data warehousing concepts and OLAP vs OLTP 34. ETL tools - experience with Extract, Transaction Load (ETL) tools like Talend for data integration 35. Cloud computing and virtualization 36. Cloud platforms - proficient in cloud services like AWS and Azure, in particular, the database offerings of each 37. Virtualization technologies - experience with vritualization tools such as VMWare or Hyper-V, containerization with Docker 38. Experience with Development and DevOps practices 39. DevOps integration - understand DevOps methodologies and tools to facilitate continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) involving databases 40. Version control systems - familiar with systems like GIT and liquibase for managing database scripts and configurations 41. Migration and upgrades 42. Database migration - skilled in migrating databases between systems or versions with minimal downtime 43. Upgrade planning - plan and execute database upgrades, ensuring compatibility and system stability
