Role & Responsibilities
As the Head of Department (HOD) for Mechanical Engineering in a Sponge Iron Unit, you would play a critical role in overseeing and managing the mechanical aspects of the plant's operations. Here's a general overview of the job description:
**1. Leadership and Strategic Management**:
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the mechanical department in alignment with the overall goals of the sponge iron unit.
- Provide strong leadership to the mechanical engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
**2. Mechanical Operations**:
- Oversee the day-to-day mechanical operations of the sponge iron unit, ensuring optimal performance.
- Coordinate with other departments to streamline processes and enhance overall plant efficiency.
**3. Maintenance Planning and Execution**:
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for mechanical equipment.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure timely and efficient equipment repairs and replacements.
**4. Equipment Reliability**:
- Monitor the reliability and performance of mechanical equipment, including kilns, rotary coolers, crushers, and conveyors.
- Implement strategies to enhance equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
**5. Safety and Compliance**:
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards in all mechanical activities.
- Implement and promote a strong safety culture within the mechanical department.
**6. Budgeting and Cost Management**:
- Develop and manage the budget for mechanical department operations.
- Implement cost-effective measures while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
**7. Project Management**:
- Oversee mechanical projects, including installations, upgrades, and modifications.
- Collaborate with engineering and project teams to ensure successful project completion.
**8. Team Development and Training**:
- Recruit, train, and develop a skilled mechanical engineering team.
- Provide ongoing training to keep the team updated on industry best practices and advancements.
**9. Performance Monitoring and Reporting**:
- Implement systems for monitoring and reporting on the performance of mechanical equipment and processes.
- Analyze data to identify areas for improvement and efficiency.
**10. Energy Efficiency and Optimization**:
- Implement strategies to optimize energy consumption and reduce operational costs.
- Identify opportunities for energy conservation and process optimization.
**11. Stakeholder Communication**:
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, such as senior management and other department heads.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
**12. Environmental Sustainability**:
- Implement and promote environmentally sustainable practices within the mechanical operations.
- Explore and implement initiatives for reducing environmental impact.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a sponge iron unit or similar heavy industrial setting.
- In-depth knowledge of sponge iron manufacturing processes and associated mechanical systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, environmental standards, and project management.
**Salary**: ₹50,000.00 - ₹80,000.00 per month
