**POSITION**: Optometrist

**DEPARTMENT**: Clinic

**REPORTS TO**: Hospital Administrator

**JOB SUMMARY**: This individual is responsible for demonstrating proficiency and excellence in skills commensurate with the maximum allowances within the scope of licensure; maximizing the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of patient care in the practice; and optimally developing an individual optometric practice within the medical/surgical practice.

**ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:
Should be able to provide quality eye care

Ability to work with patients of all ages

Should hold strong organizational value with attention to detail

Must be computer literate

Should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Practice Management Systems and Electronic Health Records

Ability to meet patient volume requirements

Ability to train others

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Optometric Examinations (Refraction)**

Independent patient examinations for vision check up and refraction.

Perform pre-exam testing to include visual acuity assessment, including pinhole and glare testing, confrontational visual field testing, assess extraocular muscles, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, assess angles, pupillary dilation, and all other patient services with some special tests such as color vision screening, stereopsis, and dry eye testing.

Perform lensometry and specialized investigative testing such as A scans, and Keratometry, Syringing.

Should be able to prescribe spectacle, contact lenses and others as per the choice and need of the patient.

Participation in a rotating call schedule and availability for back up in complex situations.

**Optical Dispensing and Fitting**

a. Should be able to counsel patients about the options of visual corrective methods as per their need, work and hobby.

b. Provides the fitting of glasses and dispensing of frames with lenses along with IPD measurement as and when required.

c. Repair frames by replacing hinges, nose pads or temples.

d. Maintain inventory of eyewear, accessories and supplies, along with the rationale for the ordering and selling of selected eyewear products.

e. Maintain knowledge and awareness of current trends in eyewear and ophthalmic lens technology.

Prepare the patient’s bill and input charges into the computer system; balance receipts at the end of each day.

Provide data for analyses of profit-loss margin of optical services and target setting for each month.

Responsible for maintenance of Optical Equipment and Machines as well.

**Contact Lens Department Operations and Management**

Establish contact lens department

Provides contact lens examinations and fittings.

Oversees contact lens inventory for current product use (i.e., trial lenses, retail stock, supplies and solutions).

Provides guidelines regarding contact lens instruction (for insertion and removal) to the patients.

**Operations theater**

Administer topical and Local anesthesia under the direction of the specialist.

Assist in surgery as and when required

Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment.

Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processing.

Inspect instruments periodically for damage, send for repair, and request a replacement, as

necessary

**Community Outreach and Practice Growth**

Schedules and performs eye health screenings in the community and Corporate with the operations manager.

Grows optometric and ophthalmology practice using various marketing tools, including face-to-face appointments with primary care providers.

**Education**

Provide in-house continuing education programs for Optical and Ophthalmic assistants.

**Salary**: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
