**Job Summary**:
The Duty Medical Officer specializing in geriatrics is responsible for providing medical care, clinical assessment, and emergency response services to elderly patients within a healthcare facility or assisted living environment. They play a key role in managing acute and chronic medical conditions, addressing geriatric-specific health issues, and coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis**:

- Conduct comprehensive medical assessments of elderly patients presenting with acute illnesses, chronic conditions, or geriatric syndromes such as falls, delirium, or frailty.
- Utilize clinical judgment, diagnostic skills, and evidence-based guidelines to evaluate patients' medical history, physical examination findings, laboratory results, and imaging studies to formulate accurate diagnoses.

**Medical Treatment and Management**:

- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, incorporating pharmacological interventions, non-pharmacological therapies, and lifestyle modifications to address patients' medical needs.
- Monitor patients' response to treatment, assess for adverse reactions, and adjust medication regimens as needed to optimize symptom control, functional status, and quality of life.

**Emergency Response and Critical Care**:
Provide timely medical interventions and emergency care to elderly patients experiencing acute medical emergencies, including cardiac arrest, stroke, respiratory distress, or sepsis.

Perform basic and advanced life support procedures, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway management, and defibrillation, in accordance with established protocols and standards of care.

**Geriatric-Specific Care and Support**:

- Address geriatric-specific health issues and age-related changes in physiology, cognition, and functional status, including management of polypharmacy, frailty, cognitive impairment, and end-of-life care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including geriatricians, nurses, therapists, social workers, and palliative care specialists, to provide comprehensive, person-centred care for elderly patients with complex medical and psychosocial needs.

**Patient Education and Counselling**:

- Provide education and counselling to elderly patients and their families regarding health promotion, disease prevention, medication adherence, and self-management strategies for managing chronic conditions and optimizing well-being in later life.
- Address patients' concerns, answer questions, and facilitate shared decision-making regarding treatment options, advance care planning, and goals of care discussions.

**Documentation and Communication**:

- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient encounters, including medical history, physical examination findings, diagnostic test results, treatment plans, and progress notes, in accordance with regulatory requirements and facility policies.
- Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, consultants, and external healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care, seamless care transitions, and coordination of services for elderly patients across different care settings.

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Valid medical license or registration to practice medicine in the relevant jurisdiction.
- 2- 3 Years of clinical experience in acute care, emergency medicine, or geriatric medicine, with specialized training or expertise in caring for elderly patients.
- Strong clinical acumen, diagnostic skills, and proficiency in managing complex medical conditions commonly encountered in geriatric populations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Commitment to patient-centred care, ethical practice, and continuous professional development in the field of geriatrics.
- Certification or additional training in geriatric medicine, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and other relevant certifications may be preferred.
