Compliance Associate

The Compliance Advisor assists with broader planning of business unit compliance programs in order to ensure organization functions are in compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies and to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper business practices within the organization. Working independently under general supervision, this job assists team members with identifying, investigating, and reporting compliance risks.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Supports compliance risk assessments to identify compliance issues, concerns, and deficiencies.
- Assists with investigations in response to complaints and/or potential violations of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Supports organization and implementation of compliance audits.
- Assists with the design and implementation of corrective action plans to resolve problematic compliance issues and to ensure that compliance deficiencies are corrected.
- Drafts reports on the results of compliance and ethics initiatives of the business unit.
- Maintains documentation of compliance activities to provide a record of issues, and to ensure easy accessibility and retrieval of documents.
- Assists with the implementation of preventative measures and compliance processes, while contributing to the revision of policies and procedures to improve the general operation of business unit compliance programs as needed.

The Financial Crime Compliance (“FCC”) team is responsible for the AML program and acts as the second line of defense for the business remaining compliant with its regulatory and legislative obligations. The Nuveen Compliance Associate (“Associate”) will support the FCC team with the AML Program to ensure regulatory requirements are met, and to protect the institution from financial crimes risks. This individual is also responsible for supporting the AML target operating model by driving efficiency and effectiveness of the program through data analysis, reporting, and metrics, covering The Associate will provide support to these activities Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
The following duties are generally representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive:

- Conducting KYC due diligence on transactional, joint venture and other business partners.
- Reviewing screening results and escalating identified risks to the UK FCC team and the Client Intelligence Unit (CIU) team as appropriate.
- Developing and maintaining AML compliance monitoring metrics and analytics reporting
- Assisting in analytical support related to monitoring and detection changes to regulations, policy and the supporting risk framework.
- Supporting the MLRO, FCC team and other Compliance colleagues with ad hoc FC projects and other works as required.
- Support audit and compliance testing reviews, as needed.

Impact of Role
- Maintain compliance with Nuveen policies and procedures regarding Financial Crime, including AML, ABC and Sanctions. Support AML Operations activities to design, develop and maintain metrics, management information reporting, system workflow, and ad-hoc data research and analysis.

Skills Required
- Experience with tools such as World Check, Actimize and business intelligence tools (Tableau)
- Experience in analysing KYC materials and screening system results
- Exposure and experience using compliance monitoring tools and techniques
- Strong technical and analytical skills
- Attention to detail is essential

Functional Knowledge Required
- Experience in a financial services firm in a Financial Crime function
- Knowledge of EMEA and APAC based regulatory requirements supporting AML and Sanctions
