**Reporting to**
-:
- Functional Head / Department Head**Key Responsibilities**
-:
- 1. **Material Composition & Purity**
- o **Metal Purity**: The purity of the recycled metal (e.g., aluminum, steel, copper) is critical. Purity levels need to be measured using techniques like **X-ray fluorescence (XRF)** or **spectrometry**. The goal is to remove impurities like other metals or non-metallic substances.- o **Alloy Content**: If recycling alloys, the quality manager ensures the correct alloying elements (e.g., zinc, copper, tin) are within specified limits. Deviations can impact the quality and properties of the final product.- 2. **Recovery Rate**
- o **Recycling Efficiency**: The recovery rate refers to the amount of metal successfully recovered from scrap relative to the input material. High recovery rates indicate an efficient process, minimizing waste.- o **Loss Reduction**: Monitoring material loss during the process is crucial for cost control and environmental sustainability.- 3. **Contamination Control**
- o **Foreign Material Removal**: Metals should be free from contaminants like plastics, dirt, or hazardous substances (e.g., mercury, cadmium). Contamination can degrade the quality of recycled metal and pose safety hazards.- o **Purity Verification**: Use of non-destructive testing methods to verify that the recycled metal is free from undesirable substances.- 4. **Physical and Mechanical Properties**-
- 5. **Size and Shape Consistency**
- o **Consistency in Form**: Recycled metal products, whether ingots, sheets, or pellets, need to have uniform size, shape, and weight to ensure consistency in downstream manufacturing processes.- 6. **Environmental Compliance**
- o **Emissions Control**: The recycling process should not release harmful emissions such as lead fumes, dust, or other toxic materials. Monitoring air quality in smelting or melting areas is critical.- o **Waste Management**: Proper handling of by-products like slag, ash, or metal residue is necessary to avoid environmental contamination.- 7. **Regulatory Standards**
- o **Compliance with Industry Standards**: The recycled metal must meet various local and international standards (e.g., **ASTM** or **ISO** standards for materials like aluminum or steel). This includes ensuring it adheres to specifications for mechanical properties, chemical composition, and environmental regulations.- 8. **Process Stability and Consistency**
- o **Process Control**: Ensuring that key process parameters (temperature, pressure, time) remain stable is essential for producing consistent quality. Variability can lead to defects in the final product.- o **Batch Control**: Quality checks should be made regularly to ensure batch-to-batch consistency. This is especially important when handling mixed metal scrap.**Qualification**
