**Pharmacist Job Responsibilities**:
- Hospital pharmacist means an individual currently registered and who works in a hospital pharmacy service, primarily within the public /private sector. They are responsible for ensuring the safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medicines.
- They work collaboratively with other health care professionals to devise the most appropriate drug treatments for patients.
- To provide information advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage to patients/ health care professionals.
- To dispense only those medicines as prescribed by the RMP and shall not substitute the prescription.
- Develops hospital staff’s pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs and training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals.
- Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspection.
- Maintains records for controlled substances and removes outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory.
- Maintains current registration, studies existing and new legislation, anticipates legislation, and advises management on needed actions.
- Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Supervise and train pharmacists, student pharmacists and other health workers.
- Registered pharmacist shall allow and co-operate with the inspectors appointed under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940 and section 26A of the pharmacy act, 1948 by the state Pharmacy Council to inspect premises where drugs are companied or dispensed.
- To under-take a pharmaceutical assessment of every prescription presented for dispensing.
- To establish safety, quality, efficiency and rational use of drugs treatment specified by a prescriber.
- Patient confidentiality shall be maintained at all times.
- Asses the stock requirements before going for a purchase according to the hospital formulary.
- Interact with the entire department In-charge and doctors for smooth functioning.
- Checking all dispatching or dispensing medicines for appropriate filling and quantitative.
- Detection/ segregation of expiry goods for purchase return or disposal on monthly basis
- Purchase invoices copies should be entered in the ledger according to date wise and same should be sent to accounts departments.
- According to the consumption, purchase order to be placed to the distributors / suppliers and after receiving the medicines same should be compared with the original invoice.
- The working place and area for storage of drugs should be clean and dust free.
- Keeping a register of controlled drugs for legal and stock control purposes.
- They use their specialist knowledge to dispense drugs and advise patients about any adverse side-effects of medicines with their potential interaction with other medicines and treatments.
**PHARMACIST QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS**:
