**OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME**
To contribute to the prevention and control of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), with special focus on polio eradication/endgame, measles elimination, neonatal tetanus elimination and rubella control. To establish sustainable systems of (a)ensuring access to immunization against diseases of major public health importance; and (b) integrating vaccine preventable disease surveillance. To promote vaccine quality assurance from production through delivery, including the development of new and underutilized vaccines.
**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES**
Under the overall guidance of Director, CDS and direct supervision of Coordinator (COVAX, IVD) the incumbent will carry out the following duties:
- Develops and implements innovative programmatic approaches and plans to support WHO country offices and Member States in sustaining comprehensive surveillance for vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs), especially in the context of the decline in surveillance performance following the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Monitors performance of VPD surveillance in Member States of the Region in accordance with the standards laid down in the Regional guidelines for VPD surveillance, and provides support on strengthening systems for VPD surveillance, including development of tools for monitoring performance by Member States.
- Supports periodic analysis of VPD surveillance data and provides technical support on use of the surveillance data for refinements of strategies and interventions to control/eliminate VPDs in Member States Uses disease surveillance information to help Member States to identify pockets of un-immunized children and priority geographical areas for improving immunization coverage, as well for investigation and timely response to vaccine preventable diseases outbreaks
- Facilitates use of surveillance data to inform programmatic decisions for introduction of new vaccines Enhances capacity for collection, management, analyses and use of data on rotavirus, invasive bacterial diseases and Japanese Encephalitis
- Coordinates with the laboratory focal point in IVD/SEARO to support laboratories involved with VPDs, such as IBD, rotavirus, JE, diphtheria, surveillance in SEAR countries.
- Other tasks as assigned by the supervisors. Submit an assignment report after completion of the assignment. (mandatory)
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education**
Essential: Postgraduate degree in Medicine from recognized university
Desirable: Masters in Public Health/Epidemiology/Communicable Diseases from a recognized university
**Experience**
Essential: At least seven years of experience in area of public health, including few years of demonstrated international exposure/experience
Desirable: Experience of planning, implementing, monitoring vaccine-preventable disease surveillance at national level
**Skills**
Expertise in planning and evaluation of public health programmes, including experience in vaccine
preventable disease control and immunization
