**Job Summary**:
The Permanent Way Engineer/Technician is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and construction of railway tracks, ensuring they are safe, efficient, and in compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves both fieldwork and office-based responsibilities, requiring technical expertise, attention to detail, and effective communication skills.

**Responsibilities**:

- **Track Maintenance**:

- Conduct regular inspections of railway tracks to identify defects, wear, or damage.
- Plan and schedule maintenance activities, including track repairs, ballast renewal, and track realignment.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure timely completion of work and mínimal disruption to train services.
- **Construction and Upgrades**:

- Assist in the design and planning of new railway track installations or upgrades.
- Oversee construction projects, including track laying, ballasting, and alignment adjustments.
- Ensure that construction work complies with engineering standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
- **Track Geometry Monitoring**:

- Utilize specialized equipment to monitor track geometry, including alignment, curvature, and elevation.
- Analyze data to identify trends, potential issues, or areas requiring maintenance or adjustment.
- Recommend corrective actions to maintain track stability, smoothness, and safety.
- **Materials Management**:

- Procure materials and equipment necessary for track maintenance and construction projects.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate deliveries to ensure adequate supplies are available when needed.
- Evaluate new materials or technologies for potential use in track maintenance and improvement.
- **Quality Assurance**:

- Conduct quality inspections of track work to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Document and report any deviations or deficiencies, and implement corrective measures as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of track maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment performance.
- **Safety and Compliance**:

- Ensure that all track work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Implement safety protocols to protect workers and minimize risks during track maintenance and construction.
- Stay updated on regulatory requirements and industry standards related to track infrastructure.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (for Engineer roles).
- Diploma or vocational training in Railway Engineering or Track Maintenance (for Technician roles).
- Relevant experience in railway track maintenance, construction, or engineering.
- Knowledge of railway track design principles, construction techniques, and maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with track inspection methods, geometric measurement tools, and track maintenance equipment.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and travel to different work sites as needed.

**Working Conditions**:

- The role involves both office-based work and fieldwork, with frequent visits to track maintenance sites.
- Work hours may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during maintenance or construction projects.
- The job may require physical labor, including lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
