Duties and Responsibilities:
Staff nurses play a crucial role in infection control within healthcare settings. Their duties and responsibilities in this regard include:
**Monitoring and Surveillance**:Regularly assess patients for signs and symptoms of infection.
Monitor vital signs and laboratory results to identify potential infections.
Participate in surveillance activities to track and report trends in infections within the healthcare facility.

**Adherence to Protocols**:Follow established infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
Adhere to standard precautions and transmission-based precautions when providing patient care.

**Hand Hygiene**:Practice proper hand hygiene before and after patient care, as well as after contact with potentially infectious materials.

**Isolation Precautions**:Implement isolation precautions based on the type of infection to prevent the spread of microorganisms.
Educate patients, families, and other healthcare personnel on the importance of adherence to isolation precautions.

**Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)**:Properly use and dispose of PPE, such as gloves, masks, gowns, and eye protection, as indicated by the type of patient care and potential for exposure.

**Environmental Cleaning**:Ensure that patient care areas are kept clean and sanitized.
Follow proper procedures for cleaning and disinfecting equipment and surfaces.

**Education and Training**:Participate in ongoing education and training on infection control practices.
Educate patients and their families about infection prevention measures.

**Collaboration**:Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to implement and improve infection control measures.
Report any outbreaks or unusual patterns of infections promptly to the infection control team.

**Documentation**:Maintain accurate and complete records of infection control measures and patient care.
Document any incidents or breaches in infection control protocols.

**Vaccination Promotion**:Advocate for and administer vaccinations to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases among patients and staff.

**Antibiotic Stewardship**:Collaborate with the healthcare team to promote appropriate use of antibiotics and prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.

**Self-Care**:Follow infection control measures to protect oneself and prevent the spread of infections between healthcare workers.
