Lab Assistant

Job Description:
A Laboratory (LAB) Assistant in a CBSE School is responsible for providing comprehensive

support to the science department and assisting the science teachers in conducting practical

experiments and maintaining laboratory equipment in the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology

labs. The LAB Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe, efficient, and engaging

learning environment for students.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Equipment and Material Management:

- Set up and arrange laboratory equipment for practical experiments in physics,

chemistry, and biology.
- Prepare chemicals, solutions, specimens, and apparatus required for practical

sessions.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, equipment, and

chemicals.
- Assist in procuring new materials and equipment as needed.

2. Lab Maintenance and Organization:

- Ensure cleanliness, tidiness, and organization in the labs, including

workbenches and storage areas.
- Clean and sterilize test tubes, beakers, and other laboratory equipment.
- Dispose of chemicals and hazardous materials safely.

3. Experiment Assistance and Demonstrations:

- Assist students during practical sessions, providing guidance and clarification.
- Demonstrate experiments and proper use of laboratory equipment.
- Address student queries and provide support in data collection and analysis.

4. Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Coordinate repairs and calibration with technicians or vendors.
- Keep records of equipment maintenance and repairs.

5. Safety and Compliance:

- Enforce safety rules and regulations in the labs.
- Conduct routine safety checks and implement corrective measures.
- Provide training to students on laboratory safety practices.

6. Collaboration and Professional Development:

- Collaborate with science teachers to enhance laboratory experiments and

procedures.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in laboratory techniques and

safety protocols.
- Participate in professional development activities.

**Requirements**:
1. Educational Qualification: bachelor’s degree in science (B.Sc.) or a related field is

required.

2. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a laboratory assistant or in a

similar role.

3. Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and safety

procedures. Familiarity with practical experiments in physics, chemistry, and biology

is essential.

4. Skills:

- Strong organizational skills.
