Job summary
The vision of the Data management Team is to provide a standardized, semantically rich, easily discoverable, extensible, and universally applicable body of domain specific semantic knowledge rich data management that can be consistently utilized across Domain data. We aim to make data knowledge compelling, easy to use, and feature rich. Our work to build comprehensive data knowledge base to allow us to semantically understand an end user intent. We strive to make data searching experiences more intuitive for all users.
As an Ontologist, you work on a team of knowledge builders to deliver world-class, intuitive, and comprehensive taxonomy and ontology models to optimize data discovery. You collaborate with business partners and engineering teams to deliver knowledge-based solutions to enable data discoverability for users.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Designing and managing taxonomies, thesauri, and/or ontologies
- Helping to develop and deliver taxonomy and content governance plans
- Reviewing existing taxonomies and metadata schemas
- Leading the development of Enterprise Knowledge taxonomy consulting deliverables
- Develop logical, semantically rich, and extensible data models for data catalog
- Research worldwide understanding of domain to develop scalable data models that solve user problems and enhance data discoverability
- Expand existing data retrieval techniques by utilizing our extensive data catalog and query languages
- Contribute to the development of new tool features and processes for the Ontology/data management team
- Drive alignment to ontology modeling and technology best practices and principles within our organization
- Coordinate cross-functional projects with a broad range of technical and non-technical teams
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in computer science, Library Science, Information Systems, Linguistics or equivalent professional experience
- 8+ years of relevant work experience working in ontology and/or taxonomy roles
- Proven skills in data retrieval and data research techniques
- Ability to quickly understand complex processes and communicate them in simple language
- Ability to communicate knowledge-based requirements and needs to engineering and busines teams
- Familiarity with Semantic Web technologies (RDF/s, OWL), query languages (SPARQL) and validation/reasoning standards (SHACL, SPIN)
- Knowledge of open-source and commercial ontology engineering editors (e.g. Protege, TopQuadrant products, PoolParty)
- Detail-oriented problem-solving, ability to work in fast-changing environment and manage ambiguity
- Proven track record of strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient English language skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in computer science, Library Science, Information Systems, Linguistics or other relevant fields
- Experience building ontologies in the finance domain and semantic search spaces
- Experience working with schema-level constructs (e.g. higher-order classes, punning, property inheritance)
- Proficiency in SQL, SPARQL
- Familiarity with software engineering life cycle
- Familiarity with ontology manipulation programming libraries
Exposure to data science and/or machine learning, including graph embeddings
