**Job description

To support the Head of Department in providing effective leadership and management of the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering. The Deputy Head of Department will be a member of the Department executive and as such will be required to take an active role in running the Department.

To contribute to the formation of the strategy and plans at the Departmental Executive level.

To contribute to the planning and managing of the Department’s human, financial and physical resources with particular responsibility for the management and development of teaching laboratories.

To oversee the mentoring and career development of academic staff, specifically ECRs and lecturers.

To assist with the management of the Department’s academic staff, including allocation of workloads, staff development and performance reviews, recruitment and selection, health and safety.

To undertake additional responsibilities as periodically agreed with the Head of Department. Person specification Be familiar with, or have a willingness to learn, the administrative and management systems of the University.

Have a personal track record of academic excellence in research, teaching and administration, and a willingness to contribute to the strategic development of the Department.

Have demonstrated management and leadership qualities.

To have a commitment to nurturing talent across all three job areas (teaching, research and administration).

Demonstrated the ability to manage multiple administrative and management tasks and to deliver tasks according to process, including meeting deadlines.

Capability to support the HoD, or independently, to manage difficult conflict or other challenging situations with staff and students in a prompt, sensitive and fair manner.
