**Job Summary**: The Patient Counselor provides emotional and psychological support to patients and their families, helping them navigate the challenges of illness, treatment, and recovery. This role involves offering empathetic counseling, facilitating coping strategies, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive patient care.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Counseling and Support**:

- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address patients' emotional and psychological needs.
- Provide empathetic listening and support to patients and their families dealing with health crises, chronic illness, or significant life changes.
- **Assessment and Intervention**:

- Perform initial assessments to determine patients' mental health needs and develop appropriate intervention plans.
- Utilize evidence-based counseling techniques to help patients manage stress, anxiety, and other psychological impacts of their health conditions.
- **Education and Guidance**:

- Educate patients and families about coping strategies, stress management, and mental health resources.
- Offer guidance on adjusting to diagnosis and treatment, including navigating the healthcare system.
- **Crisis Management**:

- Respond to psychological crises and provide immediate support.
- Refer patients to specialized mental health services when necessary.
- **Collaboration and Communication**:

- Work closely with healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses, and social workers, to integrate psychological support into the overall care plan.
- Communicate effectively with the healthcare team to share relevant patient information and ensure coordinated care.
- **Documentation and Confidentiality**:

- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and privacy regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
- **Program Development**:

- Participate in the development and implementation of support programs and workshops aimed at improving patient mental health and well-being.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and suggest improvements as needed.

**Qualifications**:

- **Education**: Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- **Licensure**: Valid state licensure or certification as a counselor or therapist.
- **Experience**: Proven experience in a counseling role, preferably within a healthcare or clinical setting.
- **Skills**:

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to provide compassionate and empathetic support.
- Proficiency in assessment and intervention techniques.
- Capacity to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Experience with specific patient populations (e.g., oncology, chronic illness, mental health).
- Knowledge of community resources and support services.
