**Culinary Expertise**: A CDP is expected to have a strong understanding of Indian cuisine, including regional variations, cooking techniques, spices, and ingredients.
- **Food Preparation**: They are responsible for preparing and cooking food items according to standard recipes and specifications. This includes marinating, seasoning, chopping, grilling, frying, and other cooking methods.
- **Menu Planning and Development**: Depending on the establishment, CDPs may be involved in creating and developing new dishes or specials within the Indian cuisine category. This involves creativity, knowledge of flavor profiles, and an understanding of customer preferences.
- **Quality Control**: Ensuring that all dishes leaving the kitchen meet quality standards in terms of taste, presentation, and portion size is a crucial aspect of the CDP role. They may need to taste dishes regularly and provide feedback to maintain consistency.
- **Kitchen Management**: CDPs often oversee a specific section of the kitchen, such as the tandoor, curry, or appetizer section. This involves managing inventory, ensuring proper stock levels of ingredients, and coordinating with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
- **Training and Supervision**: Depending on their level of experience, CDPs may be involved in training and supervising junior kitchen staff, including commis chefs and kitchen assistants. This involves demonstrating techniques, providing guidance, and ensuring adherence to safety and hygiene standards.
- **Hygiene and Safety**: CDPs must adhere to strict hygiene and safety standards in the kitchen, including proper food handling, storage, and cleanliness. They are often responsible for enforcing these standards among the kitchen team.
- **Collaboration**: Working closely with the head chef, sous chef, and other kitchen staff members to coordinate orders, prioritize tasks, and maintain a positive working environment is essential for the smooth functioning of the kitchen.
- **Adaptability**: Being able to work efficiently under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances, and multitask effectively are important skills for a CDP, especially during busy service periods.
- **Customer Interaction**: Depending on the kitchen layout and restaurant style, CDPs may occasionally interact with customers, such as explaining menu items or accommodating special requests. Therefore, good communication and customer service skills are beneficial.
