**Fellow - THORACIC SURGERY
**Conceptualized in the year 2004 as a philanthropic initiative for the Eastern and North-Eastern
parts of India and the neighboring countries, the Tata Medical Center (TMC) started operations in
Kolkata on May 16, 2011. The hospital is governed by a charitable trust - Tata Medical Centre
Trust. It is an integrated Oncology facility with well-trained professional staff and equipped with
modern facilities and the most contemporary medical equipment. The hospital was designed by
Cannon Design, a renowned architectural firm from North America. It is located on 13 acres of land
at New Town in Kolkata, West Bengal.

beds, serves all sections of the society, with 75% of the infrastructure earmarked for subsidized
treatment for the underprivileged sections. It provides a wide spectrum of services from diagnosis
and therapy to rehabilitation and palliative support. The Institution’s objective is to excel in service,
education and research.

**The Department:
**The Department of Thoracic Surgery aims to offer training in the management of lung, airway,
esophageal, mediastinal and chest wall malignancies.

**Fellowship Objective:
**The Fellowship aims to train surgeons aiming for a career in Thoracic Oncology. Fellows will be
exposed to the comprehensive management of thoracic malignancies and mínimally invasive
surgical techniques. At Tata Medical Center, Fellows will learn to work collaboratively with
Radiation and Medical Oncologists to offer high quality and personalised care The Fellows will be
involved in out-patient and in-patient care with assessment of new and review patients, and also in
the operation theatres.

**Tata Medical Center Fellowship Program Clinical responsibilities:
**The Fellow will be involved in the managing out-patient and in in-patient clinical services, and
actively assisting or operating in the operation theatre together with mandatory on call duties.

**Academic Responsibilities:
**The Fellows will be involved in case presentation, discussion contemporary publications, seminars
and organizing multidisciplinary meetings. These will be reinforced by periodic faculty lecture.
During this tenure they may be required to do audits and research work. Fellows will have to
maintain a Log Book. In addition, the fellows may be expected to teach the nursing staff. They will
have to appear for periodic assessment exams, including mid-term and exit exams.

**No of Fellowship Positions**:Two

**Duration**:1 year

**Qualification/ Eligibility Criteria**:
M.S. or DNB degree in General Surgery OR M Ch / DNB in Thoracic Surgery OR M Ch in Surgical Oncology

**Desirable:
**More than 1 year experience following a Master’s Degree, preferably in an oncology unit.
