Their primary role is to ensure that the construction project is implemented according to the design plans and specifications. Here are some of the common job responsibilities of a construction surveyor:

- Site Assessment: Conduct a thorough assessment of the construction site to gather essential information about its physical characteristics, topography, and existing structures.
- Boundary Identification: Establishing and identifying property boundaries to determine the exact limits of the construction site.
- Topographic Surveys: Performing surveys to measure and map the existing features of the land, including elevation, contours, natural and man-made features, utilities, and other relevant details.
- Construction Layout: Setting up control points and reference markers on the construction site based on the design plans to guide the construction process accurately. This involves measuring and marking positions for foundations, structures, utilities, roads, and other elements.
- Monitoring and Verification: Regularly monitoring the progress of construction work and verifying that it aligns with the design plans, specifications, and legal requirements. This includes measuring and checking dimensions, elevations, and alignments.
- As-Built Surveys: Conducting surveys and preparing as-built drawings to accurately record the final dimensions, positions, and alignments of the constructed elements. This documentation is essential for future reference, maintenance, and legal purposes.
- Quality Control: Collaborating with engineers, architects, and other professionals to ensure the quality and accuracy of the construction work. They may conduct inspections, identify any discrepancies or errors, and provide guidance for corrective actions.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting survey data to create comprehensive reports, maps, and drawings. They may use specialized software to process and present the data effectively.
