EDP or Electronic Data Processing (EDP) managers are usually hired by companies that rely on computers for their operations. With more and more firms using computers, the need of Electronic Data Processing.

**Role of EDP Department**
- Being responsible for all database management; EDP department does networking planning.
- It installs new system and also upgrades the old systems, when required.
- EDP department is responsible for securities like Anti Virus, firewall and Internet Security
- It maintains daily backup management of the data and is also responsible for restoring the data for user whenever required.
- It solves users’ problem and manages exchange server.
- It is responsible for managing all server data like new reports creation and other timely reports.
- The department keeps the tag of monthly backup of Tapes / External Hard Drives and creates original software.
- It manages wireless network and trains users about new systems.
- Last but not the least; the department is held responsible for the repair and reinstallation the old systems.

An EDP manager bridges the gap between the CEO and other department heads.
- He or she is responsible for the approval for new systems and new server in the company.
- He or she facilitates co-ordination between all departments.
- EDP managers need to manage duties of EDP Staff.
- They are responsible for rate procurement with the suppliers of IT materials and. implementation of new projects such as SAP.

**Elements of electronic data processing**

EDP systems comprise four key elements.

**1. Hardware**

Hardware refers to all the physical parts of the EDP system, including devices and peripherals. The most common digital devices used in EDP are the following:

- end-user computing devices, such as laptop computers, desktop PCs and smartphones, that can capture data and enable data entry;
- a central serverthat is required to support data processing and analysis; and
- audio and videodevices that are used when data is to be captured in multimedia format.

In addition, EDP systems may also include the following:

- scannersto convert paper-based data into digital format;
- barcode scannersand point-of-salesystems to capture product pricing data for billing; and
- medical devices and sensorsthat collect patient data for diagnosis and treatment.

**2. Software**

- inventory management

**3. Procedures**

In addition to hardware and software, EDP involves procedures or steps for data collection, aggregation, conversion, sorting, analysis and reporting

**Salary**: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
