Duties

Basic Function of the Position: The Librarian position is located in the Library of Congress Office, American Center, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, U.S. Embassy, New Delhi. Under the supervision of the Chief of the Cataloging Division who rates and the Deputy Field Director who reviews the incumbent’s performance; the incumbent will serve as a Library Clerk in Cataloging Division and will perform all tasks related to the end-stage processing and the dispatching of monographic publications and materials in other formats (audio/video, maps, etc.) to LOC/Washington. S/he will ensure that the physical condition of all materials dispatched are in accordance with LOC standards. The materials can be in any of the South Asian languages and their dialects in different scripts acquired from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. S/he will ensure that the materials are segregated by language and format categories and forwards them to the Shipping Division to send onward to the appropriate divisions in LOC/Washington in timely fashion. S/he will use various functional utilities of the ILS (Integrated Library System) and OFORS (Overseas Fields Office Replacement System) to perform end-stage processing including (a) printing and affixing spine labels for approximately 10,000 pieces per annum in conformance with LC standards; (b) performing validation check on bibliographic records in order to send errorless records; (c) retrieving item IDs for the dispatched materials to facilitate the generation of packing lists by the Shipping Division. The incumbent’s responsibilities also include maintaining records of the materials dispatched. The incumbent will also perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Evaluations

**Requirements**:
EXPERIENCE: The position requires two years of work experience in a library, book publishing, or book distribution environment.

**Education Requirements**:
The position requires successful completion of Secondary School (Class XII).
