**Data Wrangler Job Description**
Data input/output (I/O) technicians are responsible for organizing, transferring and storing the computer files and data for a DI & VFX production.
As the Data Wrangler, you will work closely with Producers to manage all incoming media and outgoing deliverables. The Data Wrangler also has the ability to create a functioning environment where the Visual Effects Supervisor can evaluate any version of any shot in the current sequences, for aesthetic and technical direction. This is a great entry level position to gain experience in an award winning Visual Effects studio creating content for Film and OTT.
**Responsibilities'**:
- You are expected to manage the computer storage and retrieval systems, including company hard drives. DI & VFX companies process large amounts of data because they deal with high-quality video files and Original Camera files.
- You should know different digital camera formats, for instance, Alexa, Cannon, Phantom and Red.
- Data I/O technicians troubleshoot any issues that come up to do with file storage.
- Data I/O technicians ensure that all of transferring and storing of data is done securely and that files are encrypted wherever necessary.
- You will be required to follow company protocols to comply with safety standards.
- You will be responsible to make logs of all of the files that they receive and perform quality control checks on these files to see if there are problems or if the files are corrupted. They use file transfer programs in order to perform their role.
- Data I/O technicians give technical support to people working in a VFX pipeline when needed.
- Data I/O technicians must have the ability to work with multiple entities (both staff and vendors) in complex environment.
- Basic academic course in VFX with a strong understanding of VFX technologies.
- Understanding of the visual effects production process is beneficial.
- Knowledgeable with Linux / UNIX environments is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, artistic skills, problem solving skills and time management.
