**About the Project**: The "Animals and Religion in India" project explores the intricate relationship between religious teachings and the treatment of animals in the context of modern animal farming and legal frameworks in India. Focusing on Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and Sikhism, the project aims to assess the alignment or divergence of current practices with religious doctrines from social, political, and legal perspectives.

**Positions**:Research Intern (One)

**Location**: Flexible timing/work from home but 5-6 hours commitment

**Job description**:
We seek an Intern to start immediately, with a background in Religious Knowledge and organizations/ Legal or Policy Research and Advocacy. As the Intern, you will work with the Policy Team at Samayu. You will research religious texts, and the mythological context of current religious practices, write drafts of documents, communicate and liaison with religious leaders and stakeholders, analyze policies and data, and work towards solid policy and religious advocacy for Samayu's goal. You need to gain an in-depth understanding of religions and mythological teachings w.r.t animal welfare, and the strategic positions of critical actors, including religious and spiritual leaders, policymakers, civil society, and animal activists, along with media editors, etc. on the prospects of findings gaps and recommendations on the basis of religious text and policy/laws.
- Conduct a thorough literature review using primary resources and other religious texts, and scholarly articles.
- Analyze current farming practices and animal welfare laws in India, identifying gaps and inconsistencies with religious teachings.
- Develop a detailed report that links religious doctrines with current animal welfare practices, providing actionable recommendations.
- Research and collaborate with religious leaders to raise public awareness and stimulating dialogue on animal welfare.
- Engage in regular discussions with the project team to ensure alignment of the report with project objectives.

**Duration**: Initially for 3 months (may be extended based on performance)

**Qualification**:
Essential: Bachelor’s Degree Social Science/Philosophy/Sociology/History/Literature/Law/Development Studies/Conflict Resolution

**Skills**:

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, relationship building skills, self-motivated, and attentive to detail
- Excellent research, analysis, and writing skills in English and Hindi
- Skills in Google Docs, Slides, Spreadsheet, etc.
