**Job Summary**:
To deliver quality engine training to GP (General Purpose) Rating, DNS, GME students ensuring they possess the required knowledge and skills to operate safely and efficiently onboard ships.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Course Delivery**:
- Deliver course content on marine engines, systems, and equipment as per the as per DG Circular guidelines for GP Rating Courses, DNS, GME students.
- Provide hands-on training in the practical lab/workshop for engine room tasks.
- **Curriculum Development**:
- Assist in the review and development of the engine-related syllabus.
- Recommend improvements based on industry changes, feedback, and advancements in maritime technology.
- **Assessment & Evaluation**:
- Conduct theoretical exams and practical assessments for GP Rating, DNS. GME students.
- Provide feedback to students and suggest areas of improvement.
- **Safety**:
- Ensure that all training sessions, especially practical demonstrations, are conducted adhering to strict safety standards.
- Ensuring safety is a crucial aspect of the role, Instructor reinforces safe working practices (as per COSWAP), instructs trainees on emergency procedures, and promotes a culture of safety throughout the training program. They ensure that trainees understand and adhere to maritime regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- Educate students about the importance of safety in engine room operations.
- **Equipment Maintenance**:
- Ensure that all training equipment, tools, and machinery are in good working order.
- Report any malfunction or need for repair to the maintenance team or the Principal.
- **Continuous Learning**:
- Stay updated with the latest trends, technology, and best practices in marine engineering.
- Attend seminars, workshops, and courses to enhance teaching methods and knowledge.
- **Student Counseling**:
- Guide and counsel students on career opportunities, advancements, and further education in the maritime industry.
- **Collaboration**:
- Work closely with other instructors, both deck and engine, to provide integrated training to students.
- **Administrative Duties**:
- Maintain and update student records, attendance, and performance data.
- Assist in scheduling classes, workshops, and examinations.
- **Other Tasks**:
- Participate in department meetings, training sessions, and seminars.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of School of Maritime Studies.
**Qualifications**:
- Hold relevant certifications (STCW III/5 Able Seafarer Engine 750Kw or more).
- Relevant sailing experience as an Engine Ratings, EOOW or an equivalent position.
- Prior instructional or teaching experience is preferable.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of the marine engine room operations, machinery, and equipment.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively deliver training materials and interact with trainees.
- Proficiency in instructional techniques and learning principles.
- Up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and adapt to changing training requirements.
- Knowledge of modern training aids, simulators, and teaching techniques.
**Working Conditions**:
- The position may require occasional weekend or evening hours based on course schedules.
- The instructor may be required to attend off-campus seminars, workshops, or training sessions.
