PROJECT DETAILS

Project Vruddhi is an ambitious project being jointly implemented by CARE and Action Against Hunger in the state of Gujarat. The project is financially supported by The Power of Nutrition, an independent charitable foundation, with matching funds from the consortium partners.

The overall goal of Project Vruddhi is “to support Health and ICDS Departments, GoG to achieve accelerated progress towards nutrition outcomes identified under POSHAN Abhiyan”.

The project aims to contribute to reduction in children’s stunting and severe wasting by improving health, nutrition and hygiene among pregnant and lactating women and children under 6 years.

The program will work closely with the Government of Gujarat (GoG) over a five-year period to strengthen its efforts to address the root causes of malnutrition in specific pockets and identifying an effective model of service delivery and demand creation that could be replicated in other contexts as well. To achieve this goal, the program will work in depth in two high-burden districts of Gujarat - Bhavnagar and Sabarkantha to develop replicable models that could be scaled up to other locations.

JOB SUMMARY

The Block Coordinator under the supervision of District Project Manager will be responsible for the technical support activities in their respective assigned blocks. S/he is responsible for providing operational and technical support to block level functionaries of Health (DoH) and Social Welfare Departments (SWD) for Outreach and Nutrition interventions. AWW, ANM, ASHA, CDPO, Lady Supervisor, MOIC, BHM and BCM are key stakeholders to be coordinated in executing responsibilities. Block Coordinator should build capacities of all stake holders at block level to achieve intended health and nutrition outcomes in a timebound manner.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Block Coordinator will include the following but not be restricted to:

- Behaviour specific messaging using tools/checklist provided by Vruddhi Team as part of COVID response.
- Promotion of Personal hygiene and culturally accepted good practices.
- Coordinate with key stakeholders in the Block to develop and support COVID response activities.
- Targeted messaging for Severe & Acute malnourished children.
- The messages will be disseminated through IEC channels, Mobile Vans/ Slow moving vehicles, through FLWs, IPC sessions held at community level like home visit, mothers meeting etc.
- Promoting hand washing and etiquettes of mask wearing to address reluctance through demonstration in Mangal Divas, VHND sites,
- Observe VHND sessions and Mangal Divas through use of tools and checklist.
- Attending platform meetings at Block and Sector Meetings, ANM Weekly Meetings, Monthly meetings at Block level.
- Compilation of the tools and checklist and share observation reports to District/ State Unit.
