**Job Title**: ICU Technician
**Job Summary**: The ICU Technician plays a critical role in supporting the healthcare team in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). They are responsible for assisting with patient care, ensuring the proper functioning of equipment, and maintaining a safe and efficient environment for critically ill patients.
**Key Responsibilities**:
Patient Care Support:
- Assist nurses and physicians in providing direct patient care, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications under supervision, and performing basic medical procedures.
- Help with patient positioning, turning, and mobility to prevent complications such as pressure ulcers and muscle atrophy.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families during challenging times
Equipment Management:
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot a variety of medical equipment used in the ICU, including ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and bedside monitors.
- Perform regular maintenance checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning and escalate issues to biomedical engineering or maintenance as needed.
- Assist in the preparation and sterilization of equipment and supplies for procedures and patient care.
Documentation and Communication:
- Accurately document patient care activities, vital signs, and other relevant information in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members regarding patient status, changes in condition, and any issues related to patient care or equipment.
Safety and Infection Control:
- Adhere to strict infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections within the ICU.
- Ensure a clean and organized patient care environment, including regular cleaning of patient rooms and equipment.
- Follow hospital policies and procedures related to patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality.
Emergency Response:
- Participate in emergency response activities within the ICU, including responding to cardiac arrests, rapid response calls, and other urgent situations.
- Perform basic life support techniques such as CPR and assist with advanced life support procedures under the direction of licensed healthcare providers.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program, emergency medical technician (EMT) training, or equivalent healthcare training preferred.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in an ICU or critical care environment, is highly desirable.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology, patient care procedures, and medical equipment operation.
