**JOB TITLE**:Safeguarding Coordinator and Counsellor

**REPORTING TO**: Head of School

**COLLABORATES WITH**: Residential Life Department, Medical Department, Academic Department

**PURPOSE**:

- To provide a comprehensive and confidential co-leadership with the Head of School on child protection and safeguarding.
- To advise all staff on matters of safeguarding.
- To lead the development of safeguarding and child protection policies, training and procedures and guidance to assist in the coordination of referrals, arranging action, intervention and reviewing services for children and families.
- To build relationship and contacts with local and international support agencies and liaise with agencies on behalf of the school

**WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING**:

- To act as the first point of contact for all safeguarding referrals, interventions and concerns.
- To ensure all safeguarding concerns are dealt with promptly and appropriately and that all records relating to referrals and interventions are comprehensively maintained in terms of information recorded, timelines, updated actions and confidentiality.
- Listening to students' concerns about academic, emotional or social issues.
- Providing individual and group counselling as appropriate.
- Developing programs to identify and address behavioral issues.
- Coordinating psychological tests and communicating reports.
- Helping teachers, parents, and caregivers support the implementation of remedial plans for students.
- To liaise with appropriate staff in regards to all safeguarding and behaviour interventions and referrals.
- To ensure that students who need support are supported appropriately and sensitively.
- To act as a source of support, advice and expertise to staff on all matters of safeguarding and pastoral care across the academy.
- Maintain an up-to-date relevant knowledge of key safeguarding issues including mental health.
- Attend and participate in Child Protection conferences and those relating to safeguarding.
- Plan and deliver regular and effective safeguarding training for staff and advise on RSHE curriculum developments to ensure our students know how to keep themselves safe.
- To maintain confidentiality at all times.

**SKILLS AND BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE**:

- Bachelor’s degree in a helping profession (counselling, psychology, social work, or related field)
- Minimum of two years of experience working with adolescents
- Good working knowledge of mental health and the treatment of affective and behavioral disorders.
- High level of cultural sensitivity and ability to work in an international student body.
- Ability to work with families who practice holistic health care.
- Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
- Understanding of restorative practices.
- Ability to relate to children.
- Ability to relate to and work with others as a leader and member of a team.
- Commitment to improvement through self evaluation.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with children/young people and families and other professionals.
- Organisational skills including ability to work flexibly and prioritise workload.
- Ability to identify, assess and recommend remedial action in situations relating to pastoral care. Ability to think creatively.
- Ability to deal with difficult situations and/or individuals in a calm, fair but effective manner.
- Computer skills at a level that permits communication.
- Fluency in the English language.
- Multilingualism is a plus.
