Field Sales Representative

The lumber salesman is responsible for promoting and selling lumber and related products to contractors, builders, and retail customers. This role involves understanding customer needs, providing product information, processing orders, and maintaining relationships to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Customer Engagement**:
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Understand customer needs and provide solutions tailored to their projects.
- **Sales and Marketing**:
- Promote and sell a range of lumber products and related materials.
- Conduct product presentations and demonstrations to clients.
- Create and implement strategies to attract new customers and retain existing ones.
- **Order Management**:
- Process customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Coordinate with the warehouse or supplier to ensure timely delivery of products.
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve any issues related to orders or products.
- **Market Analysis**:
- Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments.
- Analyze sales data to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
- **Product Knowledge**:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of lumber products, including their properties, uses, and standards.
- Provide recommendations based on product performance and customer requirements.
- **Documentation and Reporting**:
- Prepare and maintain accurate sales records, reports, and forecasts.
- Document customer interactions and sales activities in CRM systems.
- **Customer Service**:
- Address and resolve customer complaints and concerns professionally.
- Follow up with customers to ensure satisfaction with products and services.
- **Collaboration**:
- Work closely with other sales team members, as well as with warehouse and logistics personnel.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure availability and quality of products.
**Qualifications**:
- **Education**: High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework or training in sales, business, or a related field is advantageous.
- **Experience**: Prior experience in sales, preferably in the lumber or construction industry, is preferred.
- **Skills**:
- Strong sales and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Good understanding of lumber products and industry standards.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in using CRM software and other sales tools.
**Working Conditions**:
- The role may involve visiting customer sites, attending trade shows, or working in a sales office.
- Travel may be required to meet with clients or attend industry events.
