Quality control chemists have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

- Conducting tests to ensure that products meet the quality standards
- Monitoring production processes to ensure that they are running smoothly
- Evaluating the effectiveness of new methods or processes to ensure that they are producing desired results
- Performing analyses of samples to ensure that they meet specific standards or specifications
- Adjusting equipment settings to ensure that all processes run smoothly
- Analyzing raw materials to ensure that they meet specifications for use in manufacturing
- Inspecting products for defects before they reach the market to ensure quality standards are met
- Reporting any defects found during inspections to supervisors for follow-up by engineers or designers
- Recommending changes to equipment design or process parameters as needed to improve quality
