The Perinatal Clerk is responsible for greeting and interacting with OB patients in a courteous, friendly and respectful manner. They are also responsible for accurately completing and submitting birth certificates and paternity paperwork. This includes collaborating with nursing staff and reviewing medical records to ensure proper coding of relevant clinical information. This person must also assist in obtaining physician signatures for birth certificates and ensure all filing of applicable paperwork to the County is completed according to mandated timeframes. The Perinatal Clerk will also act as the unit scheduler by utilizing the Community Wide Scheduling system thus serving as a liaison between hospital departments, personnel and physician offices and assisting with problem resolution and utilization of management functions of the department as related to the scheduling. The Perinatal Clerk will ensure medical records are scanned to Medical Records daily. This position will require additional clinical quality data gathering and quality data entry support for the unit. Also, the Perinatal Clerk has responsibility to accurately collect and analyze all required demographic, insurance, financial and clinical data elements necessary to register patients presenting for care. This position is responsible for the provision of routine and advanced level patient access activities to facilitate efficient operations, expeditious reimbursement and optimal consumer satisfaction and to promote teamwork. The Perinatal Clerk must maintain strict confidentiality in all matters pertaining to patients of Enloe Medical Center.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:

- One year experience utilizing clerical, computer and receptionist skills

Desired:

- One year of experience as birth clerk or similar birth certificate experience
- One year experience in an Obstetrical setting (front or back office)

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Must have excellent telephone communication skills and interpersonal skills to maintain a high degree of rapport with patients, co-workers, physicians and the public. Must have medical terminology knowledge. Must show sensitivity for the patient and family and maintain strict confidentiality. Must demonstrate technical competence. Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly, independently and accurately in a fast-paced environment. Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Capable of using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (Microsoft Office Suite) for a variety of support functions. Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential. Must demonstrate the ability to work under conditions of frequent interruptions and willingness to be flexible and adapt to change. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
