The Ken_ is India’s first and largest subscriptions-based media company. Established in October 2016, we publish deeply reported, analytical and well-narrated stories every day. Our subscriber community, the majority of whom are in India, comprise innovative and successful entrepreneurs and senior executives; venture capitalists; policy makers; MBA students; and dozens of companies.

In the last seven years, The Ken has gained a distinctive identity and recognition for its editorial infographics, visualisations and illustrations. We are looking to add a new **Editorial Designer** to our Design team.

**About the role**

At The Ken, an Editorial Designer translates complex ideas, words, and numbers into informative, simple, and beautiful visuals. Because our stories and newsletters are deeply reported and feature distinctive narratives that often run into thousands of words, we are committed to data visualisations that make our stories more accessible to our subscribers.

But, just like our distinct narratives, our graphics go beyond simple bar graphs and pie charts to visually depict company strategies and non-numerical information.

Our designers not only contribute to everyday articles and newsletters but also work on their own data/visual-driven stories such as this one. In the coming years, the scope of visual driven journalism will grow manifold at The Ken and the Editorial Designer will be the driver of this growth.

We also create original editorial illustrations and animations for some of our stories and newsletters. Apart from this, our visual designers may collaborate with the Product team to create editorial graphics for our social media pages - especially our budding Instagram page.

**Experience**

Proficiency in softwares like Affinity Designer, Adobe Illustrator, Procreate required.

- **Attribution** — Designers are as much a part of the editorial process as editors and writers. While a story narrative progresses across different drafts, the designers and writers work in tandem to create unique infographics and illustrations that form standalone stories of their own. Because of the creativity and effort this process entails, every visual carries a designer attribution and is therefore in the public eye. Additionally, all our infographics have a special place of their own. This visual product is only available to our subscribers.
