**Job Summary**:
A Bookshop Assistant is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the store, and assisting with various operational tasks. This role involves a passion for books, a friendly demeanor, and the ability to work efficiently in a retail environment.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Customer Service**:

- Greet customers warmly and offer assistance in finding books and other products.
- Provide knowledgeable recommendations based on customer preferences and interests.
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and returns in a professional manner.
- **Sales and Transactions**:

- Operate the cash register, handle cash, credit card transactions, and provide accurate change.
- Process sales quickly and efficiently, maintaining accuracy in all transactions.
- Promote special offers, loyalty programs, and bookshop events.
- **Stock Management**:

- Assist in receiving, unpacking, and organizing new shipments of books and other merchandise.
- Ensure shelves are stocked, well-organized, and visually appealing.
- Monitor inventory levels and report any shortages or discrepancies to management.
- **Merchandising**:

- Create attractive displays to showcase new arrivals, bestsellers, and seasonal themes.
- Rotate stock to ensure older inventory is placed in visible areas and promote sales.
- **Store Maintenance**:

- Keep the bookshop clean and tidy, including sweeping floors, dusting shelves, and organizing seating areas.
- Ensure the shop front and window displays are clean and inviting.
- **Events and Promotions**:

- Assist with the planning and execution of in-store events such as book signings, readings, and special promotions.
- Provide support during events, ensuring a positive experience for both authors and attendees.
- **Online and Telephone Orders**:

- Manage online and telephone orders, ensuring accurate and prompt fulfillment.
- Pack and ship orders as needed, maintaining proper documentation.

**Qualifications**:

- **Education**: High school diploma or equivalent. A degree in literature, communications, or a related field is a plus.
- **Experience**: Previous experience in retail or customer service is preferred. Experience in a bookshop is highly desirable.
- **Skills**:

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic math skills for handling transactions.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) systems and basic computer skills.

**Physical Requirements**:
