A comedy writer is a writer who composes humorous scripts for television, cinema, the internet, or stage plays.

Comedy writers also work with professional comedians, fictional and nonfiction book writers, and websites that post funny content online.

Comedic writers can specialize in one comedy subfield, such as satire, physical comedy, parody, or prop-based comedy or focus their work in particular writing genres, such as romantic comedy films, television sitcoms, and stand-up comedy.

While some comedy writers are employed full time, many of them work as freelancers. Therefore, this career path allows great flexibility in hours, but also results in insecure income sources.
