**About the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)**

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional, and bilateral interests.

**About the Position**

The Research Officer works under direction of the Deputy Consul General to report on a range of political and economic issues in India in a busy and dynamic team at the heart of India’s financial capital - BKC. The position provides the opportunity to gain experience in economic diplomacy, senior stakeholder engagement, events and logistics, and a wide range of other issues.

Those competitive for the position will be proactive, collegiate, willingness to learn and be part of a driven and busy team. The role will require travel outside of Mumbai.

**Employment conditions**

Subject to the successful completion of three months probationary period, satisfactory medical check and background verification, the successful applicant will be offered a two-year contract with the possibility of extension. The successful applicant will be expected to commence duty as soon as possible of being advised of the selection for the position.
