**Technologist - CSSD**

Conceptualized in the year 2004 as a philanthropic initiative for the Eastern and North-Eastern
parts of India and the neighboring countries, the Tata Medical Center (TMC) started operations in
Kolkata on May 16, 2011. The hospital is governed by a charitable trust - Tata Medical Centre Trust.
It is an integrated Oncology facility with well-trained professional staff and equipped with modern
facilities and the most contemporary medical equipment. The hospital was designed by Cannon
Design, a renowned architectural firm from North America. It is located on 13 acres of land at New
Town in Kolkata, West Bengal.

beds, serves all sections of the society, with 75% of the infrastructure earmarked for subsidized

treatment for the underprivileged sections. It provides a wide spectrum of services from diagnosis

and therapy to rehabilitation and palliative support. The Institution’s objective is to excel in service,

education and research.

The purpose of a Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) is to make reliable sterilized articles
available at the right time, place and condition. The Tata Medical Center-CSSD is equipped with the
state-of-art equipments and a team of dedicated personnel.
The CSSD within a hospital receives, disinfects, sterilizes and distributes materials to all
departments including the wards, outpatient departments [OPDs] and other special units such as
operating theatres (OT) and Bone marrow transplant unit (BMTU). Major responsibilities of CSSD
include processing and sterilization of surgical instrument, rubber materials [catheters, tubing],
and dressings materials, etc. It is also responsible for economic and effective utilization of
equipments and resources of the hospital.

Sterilization Practices in India, a publication published in December 2012 (PSA/2012/1), prepared
for the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. To fulfil the above
**Job description of the CSSD Junior Technologist:
Receiving of instruments from wards and operation theatre after use
Decontamination of used devices using manual and automated methods
Inspection and functional testing of devices. Any discrepancies or faults to be reported

immediately to the CSSD supervisor
Assembly and packaging of devices for sterilization
Loading and unloading of sterilizers
Recording of relevant data in appropriate log books
Distribution of processed devices to appropriate areas
Safe handling and storage of cleaning and disinfection reagents
Maintaining the cleanliness of the CSSD
Ensure all wastes including biomedical wastes are disposed correctly in correct bins or color

coded bags

**Educational qualification**:
**Essential**: Minimum 10+2 (Higher Secondary)
**Desirable**: Science background

**Experience Required**:

Minimum 2 years of working experience in CSSD.

**Additional Skills: **

Knowledge of work practices in any CSSD in a hospital
Knowledge of CSSD equipment operation
Appropriate use of personal protective equipments (P.P.E.)
Good communication skill
Ability to work flexibly and ability to work in a team

The remuneration will be commensurate with years of experience.
