**Roles & responsibilities**:
- Regulates flow of water and electricity to control furnace temperature.
- Slags molten metal and reads metal temperatures.
- Pours metal into ladle sometimes using a hoist.
- Reads and records melt operations.
- Identifies casting flaws such as miss-run, hot tears, scaling, etc. and determines procedures required to correct the defect.
- Keeps metals separated into various categories and determines correctness of alloys.
- Operates a Spectro graph for chemical analysis, as needed.
- Relines furnaces with new crucibles, as needed.
- Directs melt crew during pouring.
- Responsible for the melt crew safety.
- Handles daily routine maintenance on equipment.

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**
Diploma or equivalent, preferred. Previous experience with induction melting is a plus.
