Founding Engineering Lead

As our first engineering leader, you will architect the product from scratch, hire and mentor a world-class team, and drive execution across data engineering, backend, frontend, cloud infrastructure, and security.
You will function as both hands-on technical lead and strategic engineering manager, reporting directly to the founders.
Key Responsibilities Product Architecture & Delivery Define and own the technical roadmap for a large-scale data platform with ontology modeling and decision-support workflows.
Design scalable microservices, data pipelines, APIs, and deployment frameworks.
Ensure system supports multi-cloud, hybrid, and edge environments.
Team Leadership Build and lead an engineering team across data, backend, frontend, Dev Ops, and security.
Establish engineering best practices (CI/CD, testing, documentation, code quality).
Mentor engineers; foster a strong engineering culture of innovation and accountability.
Cross-Functional Execution Work closely with founders, product, and business teams to translate customer use cases into technical features.
Balance quick iterations for MVP with long-term scalable architecture.
Security & Compliance Ensure platform design supports enterprise-grade security, RBAC, encryption, and compliance (ISO, HIPAA, Fed RAMP-like if targeting government/regulated markets).
Required Technical Skills Full-stack product architecture: Strong background in data engineering (ETL, Spark/Flink, pipelines, data lakes/warehouses).
Proficiency in backend microservices (Java/Scala, Python, Go).
Frontend/UI architecture experience (React, Type Script).
APIs & SDKs: Designing developer-friendly SDKs in Python/Java/TS.
Cloud & Deployment: Deep knowledge of Kubernetes, container orchestration, and multi-cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP).
Experience with Dev Ops, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Helm).
Security: Understanding of encryption, RBAC, and data governance.
Architecture Thinking: Able to design semantic/ontology layers, abstraction APIs, and data-driven workflows.
Leadership & Experience10–15+ years in software engineering, with at least 5 in a technical leadership role (Eng.
Manager, Director, or VP Eng).
Proven track record of shipping complex, cross-functional enterprise platforms.
Experience hiring and scaling 0→1 engineering teams.
Strong communication skills; ability to engage with founders, customers, and engineers alike.
Startup/"founding engineer" mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, speed, and hands-on coding when needed.
Preferred (Nice to Have)Prior experience in data platforms, enterprise Saa S, or security-sensitive systems (e.g., fintech, healthtech, govtech).
Exposure to graph DBs, knowledge graphs, or ontology modeling.
Experience building low-code/no-code workflow tools.
Understanding of AI/ML integration into enterprise decision workflows.
