The Network Engineer works as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Corporate IT team. This role involves recommending, designing, implementing, and maintaining various network architectures (LAN, WAN, Public Cloud), server and serverless infrastructure (Windows, Linux, GKE), infrastructure monitoring/management solutions (DataDog and OpManager), and Disaster Recovery/High Availability solutions. Effective communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders are essential to create optimal cloud environments and configurations for Cloud products.
Essential Functions :-
- Manage and maintain the Corporate IT network infrastructure, including Cisco Router, Switch (IOS and NXOS), SDWAN, Security Products (ASA, NGFW, Firepower), Azure, GCP GLB, Cloudflare, Azure Vnet’s, GCP VPC’s, and VPN technologies.- Manage Infrastructure as Code (IaaS) in GCP, AWS, and Azure.- Utilize gitlab/github through CI/CD pipelines.- Test, plan, implement, manage, and maintain a complex hybrid infrastructure to support the Applied environment.- Enhance service level management using monitoring and notification tools.- Construct and maintain documented standards for implementing and configuring Applied Cloud infrastructure.- Collaborate closely with Cloud Engineers; participate in planning and implementation of new Applied Cloud environments and resources.- Participate in the on-call rotation schedule.- Work after hours and weekends when required and/or necessary.- Continuously analyze infrastructure for effectiveness and inefficiencies and make written recommendations for improvements.- Define and implement best practices to support disaster recovery of the Applied infrastructure.- Create and maintain accurate and reusable implementation, testing, and related IT documentation for change or configuration process management.- Work with vendors and other third-party teams to evaluate their products and services.- Maintain the design, implementation, and operational documentation that provides guidance to other team members.- Engage in self-development through selected reading, seminars, and participation in continuing education.- Identify, communicate, and help implement improvements in the work process for customers and peers.- Troubleshoot issues with various operating systems and network infrastructure and assist other team members with the same.- Analyze internal production or development problems to determine hardware or software malfunctions and make recommendations.- Test and evaluate various equipment, systems, and procedures for use in the Applied environments upon request.- Engage with Cloud Services, Corporate IT, and other inter-office teams for support escalation, rapid response problem resolution, and solution collaboration, ensuring Applied exhibits the highest level of performance, stability, availability, security, and data integrity.- Stay abreast of changes in Applied Systems’ software, technology, and the industry.- Continuously look for ways to improve the performance, availability, and security of the Applied Cloud.- Perform other duties as assigned by immediate manager or management team.
Key Performance Outcomes :-
- Meet or exceed Applied uptime metrics by ensuring all applications and services are available to customers outside of normally scheduled maintenance windows.- Comply with all policies and procedures defined by Change Management.- Complete Applied projects and change requests according to schedule, minimizing or eliminating human error, downtime, or financial concessions.- Manage reported issues in a timely, efficient manner with appropriate escalations internally across teams and functions.- Exhibit behaviors that exemplify Applied Systems’ Core Values.
Required Skills & Experience :-
Education: Associates or Bachelor’s Degree plus some specialized training
Experience: 5+ years of directly related work experience and/or an equivalent combination.
- Ability to design and troubleshoot enterprise architectures, including High-Performance Compute and Storage, Cisco Router, Switch, SDWAN, Security Products (ASA, NGFW, Firepower), VPN, MPLS, EIGRP, BGP, LAN/WAN, TCP/IP v4 and v6, Cisco IOS and NX-OS, GCP VPC, GKE, GCS, IaaS.- Experience with languages such as Python, Ansible, Terraform.- Exposure to multi-gigabit, high-traffic environments.- Strong foundation in server, storage, and network performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
Technical / Functional Skills:-
- Understanding of core IT system technologies and Cloud platforms.- Ability to handle many high-priority and complex tasks/projects simultaneously.- Ability to work with deadlines and complete work in a timely manner.- Ability to make accurate decisions based on past knowledge and experience, technical problem solving, and adherence to all defined policies and procedures.- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.- Strong technical product and environment understanding.- Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail.- Ability to analyze and prioritize complex situations and risks.
Certifications and/or Licenses (Desired): CCNA, CCNP, VCP, Azure Professional Certifications.
