Job Overview :

We are seeking an experienced agricultural specialist to lead the implementation of Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) practices for paddy rice cultivation in Western Maharashtra and Konkan regions. The role focuses on collaborating with farmers, agricultural extension officers, and local authorities to promote AWD techniques aimed at reducing water usage and methane emissions while maintaining or enhancing rice yields.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Conduct comprehensive field assessments to identify suitable paddy fields for AWD implementation in Western Maharashtra and Konkan districts.
  • Develop localized AWD protocols and guidelines, considering regional soil types, climate conditions, and rice varieties.
  • Train farmers and agricultural extension officers on AWD techniques, covering water management, field preparation, and monitoring practices.
  • Establish and manage demonstration plots showcasing AWD benefits, best practices, and water conservation techniques to local communities.
  • Monitor and evaluate AWD implementation, collecting data on water usage, methane emissions, and rice yields for performance assessment.
  • Work closely with local irrigation departments to optimize water delivery systems aligned with AWD practices.
  • Organize farmer field schools, workshops, and community sessions for knowledge sharing and addressing challenges in AWD adoption.
  • Collaborate with agricultural universities and research institutions to integrate the latest AWD innovations and research into field practices.
  • Prepare detailed progress reports on AWD implementation, offering insights and recommending strategies for scaling up AWD adoption in the region.

Qualifications :

  • In-depth understanding of paddy farming systems and practices in Western Maharashtra and Konkan regions.
  • Proficiency in both Marathi and English for effective communication and training.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with farmers, extension officers, and rural communities.
  • Experience working in agricultural extension programs and conducting farmer outreach initiatives.
