UMC Hospitals is a leading network of state-of-the-art hospitals and medical centers across Uganda, Tanzania, and soon, Mumbai, India. We're seeking a skilled Resident Medical Officer to join our team at UMC Hospital Nerul, Navi Mumbai.
Role overview
UMC Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, seeks a senior critical care physician to lead a closed, protocol‑driven ICU service, drive multidisciplinary coordination, and elevate outcomes through evidence‑based intensive care practices.
The Chief Intensivist will oversee clinical governance, quality initiatives, rapid response/Code Blue leadership, and ICU operations in collaboration with hospital administrators and specialty teams.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a closed, intensivist‑directed ICU model; standardize protocols, rounds, and handovers to improve safety and outcomes.
- Direct resuscitation and stabilization for organ failure, acute deterioration, and perioperative critical care; lead Rapid Response/Code Blue when activated.
- Provide advanced airway management and mechanical ventilation, including intubation, sedation, and ventilator weaning strategies.
- Oversee hemodynamic monitoring and cardiovascular support, including vasopressors, arterial/central line insertion, and point‑of‑care echocardiography.
- Manage sepsis bundles, antimicrobial stewardship, infection control practices, and isolation workflows with the microbiology team.
- Supervise renal replacement therapy, tracheostomy care, bronchoscopy, thoracostomy, and other ICU procedures as indicated.
- Coordinate daily multidisciplinary rounds with anesthesia, medicine, surgery, nursing, respiratory therapy, and rehabilitation for integrated care plans.
- Champion ICU quality programs, audit/metrics, mortality and morbidity reviews, and continuous education for trainees and nursing teams.
- Engage and counsel families on goals of care, palliative pathways, and ethical decision‑making in critical illness.
- Ensure readiness for emergencies, disaster preparedness, and adherence to hospital policies and national society recommendations.
Qualifications
- MBBS with MD/DNB in Anaesthesiology or General Medicine with IDCCM/IFCCM from ISCCM‑recognized programs, or MBBS with DM/FNB/DrNB in Critical Care Medicine.
- IFCCM/IDCCM eligibility and pathways per ISCCM guidelines, including direct entry provisions for DM/FNB/DrNB Critical Care graduates.
Experience
- More than 2–3 years of independent ICU experience in reputed healthcare organizations, with demonstrated leadership in high‑acuity settings.
Skills and competencies
- Mastery of ICU procedures, ventilator management, hemodynamics, and point‑of‑care ultrasound with strong clinical judgment under pressure.
- Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams, excellent communication, and commitment to protocolized, patient‑centered critical care.
Schedule and employment type
- Full‑time, on‑site clinical leadership with participation in daytime coverage, backup/on‑call responsibilities, and rapid response oversight as required.

- Reliable delivery of standardized, intensivist‑led care with improved outcomes, streamlined workflows, and high team engagement in a closed ICU.
- Consistent execution of early recognition/response to deterioration, with safe procedures and clear family communication pathways.
