Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Urban / Environmental Planner to join our team at AVF. This role is integral to our mission of creating sustainable, resilient, and vibrant urban environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in urban planning, environmental analysis, and sustainable development practices. This role involves planning and managing projects that harmonize urban growth with environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:

• Urban and Environmental Planning : Develop and implement urban and environmental plans that align with sustainable development goals. Conduct comprehensive analyses of land use, environmental impact, and infrastructure needs.
• Project Management : Oversee planning projects from initial concept through to execution. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring alignment with sustainability objectives and client requirements.
• Research and Analysis : Perform detailed research on urban and environmental issues, including demographic trends, land use patterns, and ecological conditions. Analyse data to inform planning decisions and recommendations.
• Design and Strategy : Collaborate with architects, engineers, and landscape architects to create integrated planning solutions that support sustainable growth, resilience, and environmental protection. Develop strategies for energy efficiency, water conservation, and green infrastructure.
• Community and Stakeholder Engagement : Facilitate engagement with community members, stakeholders, and government agencies. Gather input, address concerns, and incorporate feedback into planning processes to ensure community support and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Regulatory Compliance : Ensure that planning proposals and projects adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, zoning laws, and environmental standards. Prepare and submit documentation for permits and approvals.
• Sustainability Integration : Incorporate principles of sustainable development and environmental conservation into all planning activities. Promote practices that enhance ecological balance, reduce carbon footprints, and support long-term sustainability.
• Reporting and Documentation : Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate planning strategies, progress, and outcomes. Provide clear and concise information to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
• Innovation and Best Practices : Stay updated on trends, best practices, and new technologies in urban and environmental planning. Apply innovative approaches to address complex planning challenges and improve project outcomes.
• Feasibility Studies: Preparing Feasibility Studies, Market Studies for economic analysis. Work on preparation of maps- context analysis, constraint and opportunity mapping, physical site planning, etc. to support proposals/bids. Responsible for writing proposals for public RFPs.
• Ability to travel off site and flexibility with changing priorities.

Qualifications:

• Education: M.Plan – Urban Planning or Environmental Planning from an accredited School of Architecture and/or Planning in India
• Certifications: Any relevant certifications, e.g., AICP, LEED AP, etc., is preferred
• Experience: Total 5-8 years of experience, of which 2-3 years relevant experience (preferably after masters) in years of experience in urban and environmental planning, with a focus on sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Experience with EIA, Biodiversity Parks, Zoological Parks, Eco-conservation, Wetlands conservation, or similar projects is a plus.
• Skills:

o Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, or similar tools.

o Experience with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and other spatial analysis tools.

o Strong knowledge of urban planning principles, environmental regulations, and sustainable development practices.

o Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

o Knowledge of sustainable design practices and green infrastructure.

o Deep commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.

o Creative and innovative thinking with a focus on ecological impact.

o Familiarity with community engagement strategies and public consultation processes.

o Excellent visual and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex design concepts clearly.

o Should have good skills creating visuals, infographics, diagrams, illustrations to support on branding and marketing efforts.

o Coordinate and prepare technical drawings (mostly production work) and report writing skills for projects including research, data collection, documentation, compilation and analysis, GIS mapping support, concept layouts, detailed master plans, accessibility plans and plotting plans.

o Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Able to understand and adopt workflows and commitment to personal and professional development.

o Flexible attitude to accepting different work assignments from varying fields and pro-active attitude to learning new skills, and towards execution / delivery.

o Will need a strong blend of creativity, technical skills, and an understanding of urban systems to effectively contribute to the development and enhancement of urban environment
