Principal Engineer, Systems

Baxter plans to spin off its ~$5B Kidney Care segment into an independent, publicly traded company. The new standalone entity will leverage its nearly 70-year legacy in home and in-center dialysis as well as acute therapies to provide best-in-class care to the people we serve. With its own investment priorities and enhanced management focus, the company will be better positioned to pursue growth opportunities and invest in innovation. We will build on our leadership in the kidney care space, fueled by our steadfast focus on innovation, our passion for patients and their families and our expertise in operational excellence.

Summary

This role supports new product development and/or sustaining engineering activities of medical devices through controls/algorithm development, modeling (Model-based-design) of System/sub-system using Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow framework for development of medical devices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible to support evolution of product design through model-based design, system integration and testing in physical prototypes.

The key technical competencies include, but not limited to the following –

Experience in creating model-based-design for complex systems/sub-systems and developing control logic/algorithms for the required product functionality.

Matlab Simulink State flow proven deep Developer knowledge.

Code version expertise (git)

Embedded Control Loop expertise

Embedded world knowledge (i.e., RTOS, interfaces)

Test Protocol creation and execution skills.

Product Requirements – Ability to understand & translate user needs/product requirements to concepts and design.

Leverages knowledge of technology, process, and/or therapy domains to drive solutions and product design realization from a systems perspective.

Participate in identifying and planning tasks, activities, and resourcing needs related to his/her area.

Soft skills to effectively work in a cross-functional team environment.

Desirable:

Knowledge of multi-level Requirements structure ( PRD, FRS, SRS, HRS, ….).

Working knowledge of standards IEC 62304 (SW development in medical device env.).

Testing automation exposure

Qualifications:

Possesses the technical competencies stated above. A demonstrated track record in modeling & simulation, preferably in medical device domain. Must possess sound knowledge of systems engineering principles as applicable to his/her area. Working knowledge of Product development processes, Standards applicable to Systems Engineering and relevant documentation to be generated. Proven ability to create results within timeline, and product/project deliverable.

Education and/or Experience:

An engineering graduate in Electrical/ Electronics, Biomedical or related discipline with overall 10- 15 years of relevant experience. Prior experience in Medical/Renal device domain is a plus.
