Security and Network Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Security and Network Engineer to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of experience in network design, implementation, and management, combined with deep expertise in cybersecurity practices, network simulation platforms, and advanced networking concepts such as SD-WAN, SDN, and SDA. This role is responsible for ensuring the security, stability, and optimal performance of our network infrastructure, as well as protecting the organization’s data and systems from cyber threats. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for building and configuring lab environments and Proof of Concept (POC) scenarios on various emulated platforms for network or security training purposes.
Responsibilities:
1. Network Design and Implementation:
o Design, implement, and maintain a robust network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks.
o Configure and manage network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
o Optimize network performance by monitoring, analysing, and troubleshooting network issues.
2. Security Management:
o Develop and implement security policies, protocols, and procedures to safeguard the organization’s data and systems.
o Deploy, configure, and manage firewalls, including Checkpoint, Palo Alto, F5, FortiGate, Cisco ISE, FTD, and FMC.
o Utilize SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tools to monitor, detect, and respond to security incidents.
o Implement SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response) solutions to automate incident response processes.
o Work with SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) technologies to ensure secure and optimized access to cloud services.
o Deploy and manage DLP (Data Loss Prevention) solutions to prevent unauthorized data access and leakage.
o Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability testing, and penetration testing to identify and mitigate risks.
3. Network Simulation and Virtualization:
o Build, simulate, and test network environments using platforms such as EVE-NG, GNS3, VMware ESXi, VMware Workstation, Cisco PacketTracer, and PnetLabs.
o Develop and validate network designs and configurations in simulated environments before deploying them in production.
o Create and manage virtualized environments to support network simulations and testing.
4. Lab and POC Scenario Development:
o Design and build lab environments and Proof of Concept (POC) scenarios on emulated platforms for network or security training purposes.
o Collaborate with trainers and other stakeholders to ensure lab scenarios meet training objectives and are aligned with current industry practices.
o Continuously update and enhance lab environments to reflect the latest network and security technologies and practices.
5. Advanced Networking Concepts:
o Implement and manage Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN), and Software-Defined Access (SDA) solutions.
o Design and manage cloud networking solutions, ensuring seamless integration between on-premises and cloud environments.
o Optimize and secure cloud network architectures to support scalable and resilient business operations.
6. Incident Response and Troubleshooting:
o Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity and respond to security incidents in a timely manner.
o Investigate and resolve security breaches, network attacks, and other security-related incidents.
o Collaborate with the IT team to troubleshoot and resolve network and security issues.
7. Compliance and Documentation:
o Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, NIST, GDPR) related to network security.
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, security protocols, and incident reports.
o Assist in the preparation and execution of security audits and assessments.
8. Continuous Improvement:
o Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices in network security.
o Recommend and implement new security tools, technologies, and processes to enhance the security posture of the organization.
o Provide training and support to employees on security awareness and best practices
Requirements:
1. Educational Background:
o Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
o Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or CompTIA Security+ are highly desirable.
2. Experience:
o Minimum of 4+ years of experience in network engineering and cybersecurity.
o Proven experience with network design, configuration, and management.
o Strong experience in deploying, configuring, and managing firewalls, including Checkpoint, Palo Alto, F5, FortiGate, Cisco ISE, FTD, and FMC.
o Experience in building lab environments and POC scenarios on emulated platforms for training purposes.
o Experience with SIEM, SOAR, SASE, DLP, and other security and defense tools.
o Hands-on experience with SD-WAN, SDN, SDA, and cloud networking concepts.
3. Technical Skills:
o In-depth knowledge of networking protocols and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, BGP, OSPF).
o Expertise in configuring and managing network devices (routers, switches, firewalls).
o Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, including encryption, authentication, and access control.
o Experience with security tools such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, SOAR, SASE, DLP, and antivirus software.
o Proficiency in network simulation platforms like EVE-NG, GNS3, VMware ESXi, VMware Workstation, Cisco PacketTracer, and PnetLabs.
o Proficiency in scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Bash) is a plus.
